Haaretz Tablet Edition User Reviews

Useless on iPad because no landscape mode

My iPad is permanently in a case that requires access to be in landscape mode. Hareetz for tablet only renders in portrait mode. I would love to subscribe and read Hareetz but impossible currently.

Log-on via iPad doesn’t accept my credentials

I’m able to log on via my iPhone.
IPad doesn’t work, though.

As others have pointed out, the Haaretz tech team hasn’t figured out how to display in landscape. Especially since the info shown in the App Store shows landscape.

Not sure I’ll renew…

Response from developer

Hi and thanks for the feedback. Login works in iPad. Please let us know what exactly is the issue in your device? Do you get an error message? Are you using the correct e-mail? Please inform us: mobile@haaretz.co.il. Furthermore, the app does not support landscape mode.

Haaretz iPad version doesn’t support landscape mode!

Haaretz iPad version doesn’t support landscape/horizontal mode. All media and books support how one wants to read the device. I reported this to Haaretz and they aren’t interested in fixing it. So be cautious before you use the app.

Update screwed up

Opening the app I get forced to update to a newer version, which is the phone version, which is not optimal for the iPad. I liked their older version of the iPad app better. Their technology seems to be getting worse. Great nes and reporting but crappy on the technical side.

Only opens in portrait mode

Very disappointing

So bad

Such a shame their journalism has to be presented within this awful app

Worst news app I’ve used - and I have used a lot of them

Horrible interface. And this from the StartUp Nation?!
Seems to display only in portrait mode. Looks like an Iphone app on the Ipad.
Way better to just use a web browser, although that does not allow effective off-line reading.

Useless App - Website is Far Better

The Haaretz iPad app is the single worst news app I have. It’s an unmitigated UI disaster. As just one small example out of many, the headlines are truncated to an arbitrary length that differs depending on whether your iPad is in portrait or landscape orientation. There is absolutely no way to view the entire headline, leaving the reader to guess at what the missing portion of the headline says, which is just insane. It’s been this way for year upon year, so clearly the developers have either abandoned this app or simply don’t care about its users.

The iPhone app, which is a different app from this iPad app, is somewhat better. But for anyone attempting to read Ha’aretz in English on an iPad, the only rational solution is to ignore the app entirely and just view the site in a browser.

All of which is, to reiterate, insane.

Please update your app to the latest release (5.17). I contains many improvements and we will continue to improve it.

Great reporting, awful tech

It seems Haaretz has not maintained the iPad app. It is outdated and buggy—as many others have noted. I cannot it to recognize my online subscription.

Can’t login

Application keeps telling me “network error” when I try to login and read articles. That’s not how paid subscription should work.

Comprehensive coverage of Middle East news!

This is a great app to get Haaretz on the iPad. Along with subscription you get access to Haaretz.com which you will need to access to if you want to be able to read comments. For some unfortunate reason I cannot figure out, I am unable to get comments to display. Otherwise, I find the articles engaging and the news reporting excellent!

Rubbish ap with no feedback mechanism.

Subscribed to Haaretz, loaded the iPad ap, and it freezes every time. Suspect it is looking for feedback from its site, or it picks up the iTunes email settings, which may not match the user profile at subscription. Worse, there appears no way of contacting the ap issuer to find what is going on. Typical take it or leave it attitude. Will leave it.

The app crashes constantly

While Haaretz is a serious newspaper, the app for Haaretz online crashes after each attempt to read one article on an iPad. After paying for a yearly subscription, this is very disappointing.

very good (best?) reporting on Israel, Middle East

i very much appreciate being able to read Haaretz, getting a good take on Israeli politics.the articles are well-written and, while slanted to the left (my own bias) include more conservative opinions also.

one request: i would appreciate it if we could select and copy text — in my case for pasting into tweets.

Disaster

Crashes all the time. Log in sometimes works, usually doesn't.

Crashes

Since new iOS update today, app crashes on trying to open. This despite reset, removing and reinstalling app. Too bad. Wanted news on Brussels.

Requires paid subscription

They should say straight up what the app
costs. You can't even read a synopsis without
getting the subscription.

Terrible Navigation

Besides scrolling through the entire paper (and not finding key articles), without a search engine on the iPad it is impossible to find what one is looking for. AND it does not look like Haaretz cares - the situation has been aggravating for years: look at the number of bad reviews.

Constant crashing

This app crashes regularly, apparently on an article by article basis. And you have to pay for this privilege.

Bad Enough to Think About Unsubscribing

Frequently freezes in the title page. Frequently crashes when trying to bring up an article. Article introductions are incomplete. "Related Articles" are un-dated. Is the the famed Israeli technology? Shame, shame.
