What's New in HamBand

1.4

June 16, 2026

Version 1.4 - New widgets, greyline tracker, and accuracy fixes New • Home-screen widgets. Add HF Bands or Solar Indices in Small, Medium, or Large to keep band conditions one glance away. Medium and Large widgets have a built-in refresh button. • Greyline tab. A live world map showing the day/night terminator. When your QTH sits on the greyline, low-band DX (160m, 80m, 40m) lights up - now you can see it move in real time. Improved • SFI and K-Index are now perfectly consistent across the Bands tab, Trend chart, Apple Watch app, and widgets. No more "why does my phone say K=2 and the watch say K=2.3?" • K-Index color scale standardized to ham radio convention: green below 3 (quiet), yellow 3–5 (unsettled), orange 5–7 (storm), red 7+ (severe). • Pulling to refresh in the app now also refreshes any HamBands widgets on your home screen. Fixed • Solar Flux Index occasionally showed a placeholder value when NOAA returned a null reading for the current day. Now correctly reads the most recent observed flux. • K-Index was stuck near 2.0 due to a parsing mismatch with NOAA's planetary K endpoint - now matches the live value. • Bypassed URL caching so the app always sees fresh NOAA data instead of an older response.

FAQ

What are the primary HF bands HamBand provides ratings for?

HamBand provides ratings for the five primary HF bands: 10m, 15m, 20m, 40m, and 80m. These ratings are calculated based on the Solar Flux Index (SFI) and K-Index using band-specific propagation thresholds.

How does HamBand's Greyline Visualizer work?

The Greyline Visualizer shows the real-time movement of the day/night terminator across a world map. This helps users identify when low-band DX on 160m, 80m, and 40m is likely to be active as their location sits on the greyline.

Can I track historical solar conditions with HamBand?

Yes, HamBand offers 7-day trend charts for the K-Index and SFI. These interactive charts allow users to monitor how solar conditions have evolved over the past week and spot incoming geomagnetic storms.

Does HamBand require an account or subscription?

No, HamBand does not require an account or subscription. It is designed to provide instant, real-time data without any setup or clutter, and it is completely free with no ads.

Is HamBand available on Apple Watch?

Yes, HamBand has an Apple Watch companion app and complication. This allows users to check band conditions and key solar indices directly from their wrist without needing to use their phone.

How frequently is the data in HamBand updated?

HamBand always fetches fresh data directly from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center. The app displays the 'last updated time' for the live solar data, ensuring users have the most current information available.

What is the age rating for HamBand?

HamBand has an age rating of 4+. This indicates it is suitable for a very broad audience, including young children, and does not contain any mature content.

What devices does HamBand support?

HamBand supports a range of Apple devices, including the Apple Watch, iPhone, and iPad. This broad compatibility allows users to access band condition information across their preferred devices.
