About

Handoff is the race-day companion for distance relays. Your captain builds the team, roster and leg plan at handoff.run; this app is what your team uses on the course. KNOW WHO'S RUNNING, AND WHEN THEY ARRIVE The board shows the runner on course, how long they have been out, and the expected arrival at the next exchange. Every projection comes from each runner's pace. EVERY HANDOFF UPDATES THE RACE Slide to record an exchange. Every later handoff time and your projected finish are recalculated from the real times, so both vans always know when to be where. PASS TIMING WITH A QR CODE One phone records every exchange. When it is time to hand that job over, show a code and the next timer scans it. No signal needed. BOTH VANS, ONE PLAN Van 1 and Van 2 see the same roster, legs and times. Tap a leg for its distance, exchange map links and expected pace. BUILT FOR THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE Set up once while you have signal and the whole plan is saved on your phone. Times you record offline queue and sync when you are back online. STAY AHEAD OF THE EXCHANGE Optional alerts tell a runner when their leg is coming up and tell a van when to head to the next exchange. On iPhone, a Live Activity keeps the current leg and a countdown on your lock screen. A Handoff Race Pass for your team, bought by the captain on handoff.run, unlocks live timing for everyone on the roster. You sign in with the same account you use on the website. What's New in Handoff Race Day

1.3.0

October 29, 2026

• Van Life and Camp Life: a new tab for your team's expenses, awards and your badges. Settings moved to a gear on each tab. • Team expenses: add expenses and see who owes what, even with no signal. Entries sync when you're back online. • Roadkill counter: count kills during your leg, see the team total, and share a kills card after the race. On iPhone, tap +1 on the Live Activity to count from the lock screen. • Keep screen awake: a new setting, on by default, that stops your phone locking while the race-day screens are open. • See who's set up: a phone icon on the Vans and Camp rosters shows which teammates have the app ready. Captains get a notification when a teammate finishes setup. • Fixes and polish, including a crash on the race screens for some builds.
