What's New in Harmonicc Chord Sequencer AUv3

1.4

April 15, 2025

This version adds an undo button to the sequencer section header, next to the clear button. It keeps the history of addition, deletion, pasting, moving and clearing states, and lets you undo your steps. The history is kept locally, not in the AUv3 or project/preset states, and will be reset on the pattern changes.

If you want to know how this app works, watch Jade Starr’s YouTube video.

Unlike the previous reviewer, I think this app deserves full marks.

Ist ok aber

Es nervt, dass durch das Drücken eines Chords, dieser direkt in die Timeline übernommen wird. Bitte eine Option, um dieses zu verhindern.

Response from developer

Hello, you can toggle off the recording by pressing the record button, the circular button next to the play button on the sequencer header.

You need this!!!

If you aren’t making soulful, goosebumpy, meaningful and sonically compatible progressions, you aren’t really making music yet.

This cute, quirky app will unlock incredible, complicated progressions instinctively based on the “mood” of the emoji. If you find the progressions overwhelming, you can easily scale it back to the simplest levels. I had no idea this was in the works, had I been involved in the beta, I would have spread knowledge of this lil titan of iOS production.

Don’t discount this based on its quirky concept, the chord progressions are clearly displayed so there’s not a whole lot of guess work, but the mood of the emojis do coincide with the feel of the progressions.

My favorite 2024 harmonizer by far. Thanks CEM!

Gamify the theory!

I’d like to see the following improvements:

1. Drag and drop to re-arrange chords in the sequencer area.
2. Selecting an existing chord in the sequencer should dynamically change the recommended chords for THAT chord in the top window.
3. Ability to override the currently focused chord by dragging any chord from the middle window to the top/middle (to update current siblings).
4. A few more sounds built-in, in addition to the default piano, e.g. a sine wave, a pad sound, a plucked sound - just a few!
5. Highlight the I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII chords with a frame or colour.
6. Shade/colour common types, e.g. triads, 5th, 7ths etc. to quickly identify them.
7. Add presets for common/famous chord progressions.
8. Add an arpeggiator and rhythm presets.

Response from developer

Hi, there’s a move icon at the bottom of the steps when the sequencer is expanded. You can drag from there to reorder them. Also, the AUv3 plugin includes lots of factory presets for the common progressions. I’ll consider your other suggestions, thank you.

Eh…it does what it says..but it’s confusing.

First of all…cool concept. That’s why I bought it immediately and it seems like a lot of fun..but I have an issue.
So the chord suggestions do come up as randomly as described.. and there are emojis…but I have no idea what the emojis mean. Some of them repeat throughout a particular group but I have no idea what their relationship is to the chords. Do certain chords represent a particular type or tone…or a more linear chord suggestion as opposed to a more unconventional one? There are also colored lines under each chord that I’m sure mean something…but I can find it explained anywhere. I like the idea but I’m still trying to understand the chord suggestions and how to utilize it properly.

The tutorial covers just about everything I could figure out on my own. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Response from developer

Chord suggestions are not random, the Harmony Engine loads the next set of chords based on the style. The colored lines representing the harmonic function of the chords, such as tonic, leading, dominant etc. It wasn’t included in the tutorial but I will update it. Thanks.
