HIFI Radio

This season: non-stop unlimited Christmas music, 24/7 with no commercials. Four holiday stations, all free. Mistletoe Soul plays vintage soul and R&B, Tinsel Strings the orchestras and strings with almost no singing, Cocoa Lounge the cocktail-hour standards, and Sleigh Riot the indie bands. They come from SomaFM, listener-supported and ad-free. HIFI is an internet radio player drawn as a classic click-wheel music player. Drag around the wheel to move through the menu, press the center to tune in, press MENU to back out. It costs nothing and never asks you to sign up. The live stations come straight from Radio Paradise and SomaFM, independent broadcasters paid for by their listeners, with Pop Girl Radio from Exclusive Radio alongside. You see the song that is on right now and who made it. The Synth Sounds stations are instrumental music we made for HIFI. They run on a shared clock, so tuning in drops you wherever the rotation is, the way a real radio does. • Dial-Up: lo-fi beats, soft breaks, rain on the window • Shareware Summer: warm synth funk • Night Build: dark ambient for late hours • Pixel Drift: chiptune HIFI TV plays old-TV clips behind Now Playing, with the song and station on a sheet of clear glass over the picture. 101X Chillville keeps the chill playlist from Austin's 101X going: 670 songs, each played from its official video. Connect Spotify if you want to. The heart next to a live song saves it to your Liked Songs, and your playlists show up on the click wheel, with the Nate's Software HIFI playlist up top. Spotify's own page handles the sign-in; we never see your password. Also in the box: • Change stations from the wheel, the lock screen or your headphones • Song, artist and station on the lock screen, drawn like the old screen • Picture in Picture: leave the app and HIFI shrinks into a small clip-on player • Keeps playing in the background • No ads, no tracking If a live station becomes a habit, support it at radioparadise.com or somafm.com/support. Made by Nate's Software.
