Great App and Development

This app is very useful especially for the earlier alerts and heat maps with risk scores. I use an Escort detector and find it quite helpful even without the full detector integration. Paid version is worth it and developer keeps adding features.

Amazing app, would be great to have apple watch compatibility if possible

Using for 2 years now, the premium is 100% worth it without a doubt. Genuinely helped me avoid tickets for a very long time in combination with a r7. More information is always better in my opinion. Probably a niche request, but it would be nice to have an apple watch version. It is hard to use on a motorcycle and it would be nice if there was a simplified display for apple watches. I recommend this to literally everyone I know.

Response from developer

Thanks for the kind words Arian! I've considered building an Apple Watch companion app before but hadn't considered the motorcycle use case. If you're up for it, shoot me an email at info@highwayradarios.com with more details on what you're imaging.

My Go To App

I’ve tried several apps. HighwayRadar has proven to be highly reliable. I’m amazed at how many people must be using this app to produce accurate and timely crowd-sourced location reports everywhere I’ve driven in multiple states. The display format provides everything I need at a quick glance so I’m not distracted. It even tracks aerial survalence.

A must have

Way better than you could imagine. Limitless options and configuration. You would expect this to come directly from the radar detectors manufacturers. But if they did it would still fall short.

Seriously if you have a supported radar and you are wanting more info you need to do it.

This app is the real deal!

I’ve been a big fan of this app for a long time. As a driving enthusiast, I really appreciate its impressive set of integrated features. I was especially excited for the iOS implementation, and it has absolutely lived up to my expectations. Everything from the aircraft alerts to the radar and laser system integration is incredibly well executed and adds a lot of value. It’s a fantastic app that continues to impress.

Getting close

CarPlay is great, but the map is very ugly. Huge Google Maps logo and goofy colors. Perhaps Apple Maps could be an option in the future. The zooming and panning on the CarPlay app is also very strange and not inline with other apps (Waze). My final issue is with the audio announcements when radar is detected. It’s often doubled which sounds strange and unpleasant. One audio alert at a time would be preferred. “K band rear, k band side” instead of playing at the same time.

Subscription is annoying but I get it. I’d rather pay one time fee. So sick of subscription model.

I will return to update this if things change.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback! For what it's worth, the Google Maps logo is inserted and required by Google, and a move to Apple Maps would remove any ability to customize the map colors or information density. Audio alerts are updated in v1.4, but I'll double check that they're queuing rather than overlapping. The CarPlay pan/zoom tools are defined by Apple, but I believe that there is a newer "swipe to pan/zoom" that I can update to. Do you mind sending me an email to info@highwayradarios.com with more information? I'm curious what colors you consider "goofy" (if you're referring to the heat map you can change the theme), and what you would prefer to the existing black/white themes. Thanks!

The Insiders Waze

Driving 4,600 miles from Montana to Lake Placid, NY for a car event provided an excellent opportunity to really put Highway Radar through its paces. This really is Waze on steroids:
- you see the recency of Waze police reports
- you don’t get the irritating / irrelevant “a car is on the side of the road”
- you see a lovely risk score for your location which you can choose to be out of 10 or 25, I chose the latter and found it useful
- you see a heat map telling you the exact spots where crowdsourced radar data shows that speed enforcers like to hang out

The app provides more than adequate turn by turn directions. In 4,600 miles I didn’t make a single wrong turn.

Ultimately this is like having a local sitting in your passenger seat tipping you off “it’s high risk here” or “police are rarely here” supplemented by “and here’s exactly where they like to hang out”.

Highly recommended. Frankly indispensable for any highway run on roads over 200 miles you’re unfamiliar with if you like to get the most out of your car. (While staying safe of course!).

Great potential

This is pretty good for iOS, but I do miss a few things that I think highwayradar is well suited to implement. Because I use a V1G2, I don’t have auto lockouts built into the detector. This is my big complaint, I want to have auto lockouts while not having highwayradar on my screen. Another thing I would love to see which no other app for iOS is implementing would be automatically switching between logic modes based on speed or PSL.

Response from developer

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Lockouts do work in the background but this helped me find a bug that can prevent them from working correctly after the app has been backgrounded for a while. Speed- and/or PSL-based mode switching is pretty high on my to-do list, so you'll see that sooner than later. Thanks for validating that folks want it!

Superb tactical situation display!

Excellent community-based program that integrates into OEM car display by leveraging Bluetooth connection via phone and radar detector to car via CarPlay. Consolidates information suite into one display and reduces distractions by eliminating need to scan my eyes further across my car’s cabin. Excellent settings for enhancing awareness of nearby LE. A lot of love must have gone into this program. Will definitely be maintaining the modest subscription because this is a project worth supporting.

Solid cop detection app

Has some bugs related to UI but other than that, the app is very user friendly and should be used with a radar + waze. Highly recommend!

Response from developer

Thanks for the review and feedback! Would you mind shooting me an email (info@highwayradarios.com) to explain what UI bugs you're seeing so that I can address them? Thanks!

Meh, nice try.

Didn’t know what to expect, but I’m going to cancel after my week trial period.

I use a V1G2 this app locked up my V1 a couple times with a steady alert for miles, no radar around. Sometimes my V1 will alert and the app won’t show the alert. This app will alert police ahead, but the officer isn’t on the road I’m on . . Let’s say police on a side road when I’m on the freeway. The lockout didn’t work either. Just doesn’t seem ready to me, I’ll stick with Waze with the V1.

Response from developer

Sorry to hear it's not working well for you! For the record, you can change the alert method to "same street" if you only want alerts on your current street (rather than anywhere in front, or within a radius). The lockout bug is a known issue and is my top priority. Also worth noting that the app doesn't send any commands to the V1G2, so it's not capable of "locking up" the device (though I am continuing to work on BT connection reliability in general). Edit 6/29/26: v1.4 contains a number of improvements to V1G2 connection. Please give it a try and reach out to info@highwayradarios.com if you're still having problems so that we can get it fixed for you.

Saved me several times!

I’ve been using the app for a few months now and it’s been great. It saved me from several cops that Waze wasn’t showing! And now that it has CarPlay, it’s even better!

Keeps getting better

This app keeps getting better with every update. Worth every penny of the subscription.

Family plan??

My girlfriend has bought the family plan under her IOS account, and it states that that should allow me to be under the same subscription, but there’s no explanation of how to connect this in the book or on the forum. Is this feature implemented yet? EDIT— read through the comments on here and now I see that we must be under the same apple family sharing plan. Leaving this up so that others can see. Recommend making this info easy to see in the app description as well as on RDF. Thanks!

Response from developer

Thanks a ton! Glad you were able to find it. I'll figure out how to add this info in the app somewhere. Great suggestion! Not sure that the average user knows what RDF (rdforum.org) is, haha. It's been discussed there but I can make it more visible so that a Google search might turn it up.

Subscription only?

Was a beta tester for a long time, and this is a great app. I personally hate subscriptions though, and am sad to see thats the only option.

Response from developer

Thanks for beta testing! Ongoing costs to keep the app running mean that a one-time purchase isn't financially viable. I've considered a lifetime purchase but haven't come up with numbers that I'm comfortable with. I don't love subscriptions either, but I do my best to deliver as much value as possible in order to make it more than worth it (especially when weighed against the costs involved in getting a ticket).

Great app

Love this app; good integration with radar devices and other data sources; very useful. Needs CarPlay!

Response from developer

Thanks! CarPlay is on the way, just want to make sure that it's working smoothly before releasing it. Edit 5/16/26: Just editing to let you know that CarPlay is live in the latest version now!

Consider bringing a lifetime purchase option

Good app, but maybe if there was a lifetime purchase option I would stick with it.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback! I've considered a lifetime option but the math hasn't worked out to a number that I feel good about presenting as an option. I'll revisit and see if this is something that I can make work, as I'm sure that plenty of people would like the option.

Uniden R4

Been using it since the beta launched years ago now. Absolutely love it, well worth the price and I can’t wait for potential car play implementation

App is not connecting to my radar . Bluetooth is on and is currently connected to my iPhone .

App is not connecting to my radar . I have iPhone 17 pro with Bluetooth connected to my radar

Response from developer

If you'll email me at info@highwayradarios.com I'm happy to help you get it working. The app does connect to radar detectors, though some are a bit finicky with how they need to be connected to various apps.

GPS lockouts

Love the app, but will be using V1 Companion until GPS lockouts are added to HwR. Do you have a ballpark estimate when this will be added? Thanks!

Response from developer

GPS lockouts are currently in the beta build and will be launched to the App Store in the next version. It's coming ASAP!
