About
Hinge is a door-hardware reference tool for homeowners, carpenters, and builders. It covers door swing geometry and hinge selection — nothing else.
DOOR SWING ANGLES
The Angles tab shows visual diagrams of a door at six swing positions: 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°, 120°, and 180°. Each diagram renders the clearance arc swept by the door and calculates the approximate floor-space depth required at each angle, so you can check whether a door fits a space before installation or renovation.
HINGE CATALOGUE
The Hinges tab is a reference guide to 12 common hinge types used in residential and commercial construction:
- Butt hinge — the standard mortised interior and exterior door hinge
- Continuous (piano) hinge — full-length hinge for even load distribution
- Pivot hinge — top-and-bottom mount for heavy frameless and glass doors
- Concealed (Euro) hinge — fully hidden cabinet hinge with 3-way adjustment
- Barrel hinge — cylindrical hinge that recesses into the door edge
- Spring-loaded hinge — self-closing hinge for fire doors and screen doors
- Gate hinge — heavy-duty outdoor hinge for garden and farm gates
- Double-action hinge — allows door to swing in both directions
- Ball-bearing hinge — smooth, low-friction hinge for high-traffic doors
- T-strap hinge — surface-mounted strap hinge for barn and shed doors
- H-hinge — traditional surface-mounted hinge for cabinets and shutters
- Knife hinge — thin mortised hinge for precision inset cabinet work
Each entry lists typical use cases and load capacity, so you can select the right hardware for the load and application.
MY DOOR SPECS
The Specs tab lets you save your own door measurements: door name, width in centimetres, swing direction, current open angle, and clearance notes. A computed clearance depth is shown for each saved door so you can track what space each door sweeps.
Everything works fully offline. No account, no network access, no ads, no tracking. All door spec data is stored locally on your device.
