Thank you! 🙂 Glad it's showing you some new tricks - even solid solvers usually find a few surprises in the later groups. Happy solving!

Thanks so much for the amazing review! 🙂 I’m really glad you’re enjoying Hintoku and that you find it both educational and easy to use. Making advanced Sudoku approachable was exactly the goal. Thanks again for the recommendation - it really means a lot!

Improve you soduko
Great game

Thank you! 🙂 Really glad the puzzle entry and auto-candidate updates are working well for you. If you haven't tried them yet, v2 also added 3 new prequel strategy groups where you can solve without candidate notes at all - might be a fun change of pace. Happy solving!

Great features

Happy you like the way Hintoku combines strategy explanations, step-by-step walkthroughs, and in-game hints when you get stuck 🙂 The goal is exactly that - to make pattern recognition easier to build while still letting you solve the puzzle yourself.
Nice teaching aid!

Thanks a lot 🙂 That “next technique available” feature is actually one of the core ideas behind Hintoku - helping players in the right direction without immediately spoiling the puzzle. Really glad you’re enjoying it!
Great app to learning and improving Sudoku

Thanks a lot 🙂 Really glad the step-by-step approach is helping and that you’re improving while still enjoying the game - that’s exactly what I hoped for when building Hintoku.

Excellent layout and design
But what I’d really like to compliment, is the layout and design of the puzzles and keypad. There’s a little bit of a learning curve, getting used to the format, but after a minute or two, the gameplay is so fast, logical, and efficient, I’m actively irritated by the formatting of other Sudoku apps now. I strongly recommend this app just for the ease of play. I’d like to make the suggestion that the keypad numbers could be darkened out as they’re completed, but besides than that one small thing, all the other Sudoku apps could learn something about facilitating smooth gameplay.

Thanks a lot for this, really appreciate it! Glad to hear the app helped you improve and that you’re not getting stuck on harder puzzles anymore - that’s exactly what I hoped for. And yeah, chaining takes time, that’s totally normal 🙂 Also really happy you like the controls and overall feel. I spent a lot of time on that, mostly testing and tuning it on myself so it feels fast and natural. And thanks for the tip about dimming completed numbers - makes sense. I designed the app around how I personally play (and I tend not to use that), but I can see how it would be useful, so noted 🙂 Thanks again for the review!

Wow, thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to write your first review 🙂 I’m glad the guidance and step-by-step approach match what you were looking for, that’s exactly what I had in mind when building it. And nice progress already - 5 strategy groups in is a great start. You’ve got a few more level 4 groups ahead, and mastering those will let you solve the vast majority of human-solvable Sudokus. Hope you enjoy the journey 🙂
A brilliant app!
The free boards per section allow plenty of time to practice each technique you are on. Also, you can get stars for solving a board with a low or zero use of hints and mistakes, if that sort of thing helps your motivation (it did me).
What I don’t understand is why it doesn’t have lots of reviews. This is a real gem, in my opinion. After getting to the end of the 10 free games in the section on XY-wings, I bought the game (£4.99) so that I could practice the technique further, even though I had lots of free sections on even more techniques still to go.

Absolutely the best!

Glad you’re enjoying it - really happy to hear it helps when you get stuck 🙂 Just in case you missed it, there’s an “Own puzzle” option in the main menu - you can retype NYT (or any other) grid there and use Hintoku’s hint/help system on it.
