What's New in Hipponics Firewatch
1.23.0
October 14, 2026
Firewatch now keeps working when you lose signal. NEW • Offline maps (Supporters): save the street map of an area to your iPhone, so roads, tracks and towns still show with no signal. It tells you the size before saving – a 50 km area is usually a few MB. • With no signal, the map shows the last fires your phone loaded, for up to two days, instead of an empty map. A banner always says how old they are: red when you're offline, amber when you have a bar of signal but new fires aren't getting through. • A fire whose warning level has just gone up pulses on the map for 15 minutes. If it's in view or in one of your watch zones and rises to Watch and Act or Emergency, your iPhone buzzes once. • "Watch this area" in every fire's details opens a 25 km watch zone around that fire – one tap and Save. • After you sign in without a watch zone, Firewatch offers to set one up around you. Without a zone you get no alerts. IMPROVED • Wind is on from the start, so you can see which way the air is moving around every fire. • Map areas and road closures you've already viewed stay on your phone for when signal drops. • Swipe a notification to delete it; notifications are more compact on phones. • 3D runs cooler on phones, and fast devices step up to sharper visuals with hill shading. • Fire spread zones hold more of a fire's real growth (Supporters). FIXED • Long-running fires no longer disappear from the map after a week while their fire service still lists them. • Queensland fires show their own times, and a fire with a warning is one marker, not two. • A more serious fire is always drawn on top of a less serious one. • In 3D, wind direction now matches the 2D map, and hotspots are visible on phones when zoomed out. • Road closures no longer vanish after a single failed refresh.
