Good app
It is a good app, but it the letters that represent the sound ( a, e, u ,o, i, ke, ko, ki, etc...) could be bigger, and easier to click on. Good app tho
Annoying app
From the initial, unskippable pop-up that directs you to their website, all the way through their uninformative, text-only βlessons,β this app proved useless from minute one. One of my few near-immediate uninstalls.
Best app for learning hirigana and katakana!!!!!
I cannot express how thankful I am. This is by far the best app to improve your hirigana and katakana skills, and I have tried A LOT of apps. Although this app has some ads that and sometimes thereβs one ad that always pops up when you enter, it still works grrreat. 10/10
Great!
This app is extremely helpfulπ
Love it!
Itβs so helpful. I especially love the tips to help you remember whatβs what.
Fantastic way to learn hiragana/katanaka
It's free! You can't beat that! Easy way to learn section by section but quizzes and flash cards. Love it!
Sugoi desu!
I started a Japanese course and was placed in a class much more advanced than I could handle, and had to learn Hiragana and Katakana fast--very fast. This app enabled me to have decent command in two weeks! Awesome!
Excellent
I'm using this to help me learn hiragana and katakana. I can easily isolate and focus on specific groups of characters and quiz myself so I can get faster with recognizing what characters make which sounds. Love this appβ€οΈ
I CAN READ KANA FLUENTLY NOW
I wanted to learn japanese a few years ago and downloaded around 15 apps and only this one worked, i learned both full japanese alphabets only using this app and it has changed my life.
After this showed me how easy it was to learn an alphabet i started learning others because it only takes like 2 days to memorize most alphabets once you get used to it. I can now read 10+ alphabets and can put almost any language into google translate.
Japanese is one of the harder ones but one of the easiest to remember once you learn it with this app, ive recommended this to countless people. If you want to read japanese, or just english written in kana (there is a lot of english in japanese) then get this app. You'll love it.

Good app, a few things would make it great
Overall I like this app. I have two suggestions. The first is to have a page each for hiragana and katakana where you have a table and can click on each symbol to hear the pronunciation. Ok, you might want a second page for combinations, but the idea is to make it easy to find the pronunciation while you are practicing your handwriting. This would be best seen on an iPad version, but you could be creative and lay it out on the phone.
The other suggestion is to link the pages together so that you don't have to go back to the main page in order to move on to the next thing.
Otherwise, thank you for this nice app.

Excellent Teacher
I find this to be a very thorough and solid app for teaching the Japanese syllabaries. It covers everything you need and want to know at the best times to introduce it to you as you learn. I've had a very fun and importantly a very motivating time taking my first steps into Japanese and I highly recommend this app to anyone interested. It comes with many different features to help you study in a way comfortable for you. Everything is completely free, and they're not exaggerating when they say the ads are unobtrusive. They usually don't even show up. I fully support these developers and thank them for guiding me into the Japanese language.

Best app I've found for learning Japanese thus far!
Just downloaded this app about an hour ago and I've already learned so much! The app has the proper pronunciation, easy to remember tips on how to remember which character is which, and reviews, quizzes, and flash cards available for both the characters and the example words learned in the lesson! As soon as you learn your first Hiragana character, you begin to learn words you can use it in and you learn more and more as you go through the lessons! Very well made and easy to use - the best I've found yet! Awesome job! I highly recommend.

Not that helpful
The mnemonic devices are not very helpful. I learned the hiragana in school, so I know that there are better ways to remember them than what is in this app - I downloaded this to learn the katakana, and the devices for those mostly don't make a lot of sense. The problem I had with the quizzes was the ~3 second delay between questions. I want to be going quickly while I review, and I wasn't able to. The quizzes are multiple-choice, so I was hoping that, for example, "me" and "nu" would both be choices for one of those hiragana because they can be mixed up with each other. ("ha" and "ke" are two more.) This is still a decent study guide when I'm on the go, but I think there are a lot of improvements that could be made.

Very pleased!
This app is excellent for learning to read, write and speak Japanese starting with the different alphabets. I have been using this to supplement my learning, and it has been a wonderful tool to help me to quickly learn the alphabets. I am also using Rosetta Stone, but found it difficult to associate the written words with the pictures using that program (unless in romanji). This app has made learning the alphabets and words unbelievably easy, and helped me over the block that I was facing... Additionally, the support/(author?) of this app is extremely helpful and quick to respond. I had a technical question (which turned out to be my own user error). I shot an email over--the response was quick, friendly, and my problem was solved by the next morning! I highly recommend this app!

γγγοΌ
I love this app! I became fluent in hiragana in only four days and katakana in six! It keeps things simple, has quizzes to test you at your own pace, and provides exposure to proper pronunciation which is vital when learning a new language. The only thing I can possibly criticize is that the screen is small, and cannot be expanded. This is only a problem during reviews, though. A flash card is displayed and you have to select the proper translation. The answer buttons are so tiny and close together that I often push the wrong button by mistake, even if I use only the very tip of my pinky to select. I hope a later version will have larger buttons to solve this issue. It's a minor nit, so all in all, this is a wonderful app, ideal for a serious student to work at his or her own pace.

Kana/Hiragana user incredibly useful!
This app is -as mentioned in the title- incredibly useful and easy to learn. Explaining the symbols in a clear, easy to understand way, and how else they are used in modern Japanese speaking. All you have to do is grab a piece of paper and write down how it explains it to you, and in as litle time possible, you've memorized Hiragana and Katakana! It even teaches you the order of strokes to write the characters. Once you've learned how to read it, and how the characters are used, you'll actually jave to purchase another app that teaches you the actual language, but it'll be easier all thanks to this! You won't be let down!!

AMAZING!
This is by far the best app for hiragana / katakana studying I've seen yet. It doesn't teach you to speak Japanese, but if you are looking to leaning the syllabaries, it is definitely worth it! There are many, many ways to help study, quiz, and learn the katakana and hiragana syllabaries. I've never been able to learn hiragana so quickly! Plus, it helps you retain it very easily with clever little tricks to connect each character with pictures, etc. Once you learn several hiragana, it starts to teach you small, simple words that you can use with them. It Also pronounces each word clearly, making it easy to remember. would definitely recommend this app as a secondary learning guide to anyone wanting to speak Japanese, and wanted a bit more practice on their hiragana and katakana. And hey β it's free!

Amazing app for Japanese students!
I found this app to be absolutely perfect for keeping my daily practice routines up for when I'm on the go. It has even taught me a few things, and I'm sure it helps the absolute beginners learn too. My only recommendation is for in the reviews of the chapter lessons. It shows a random character in that chapter (5 per chapter) and puts randomized buttons for multiple choice guessing. It is very helpful, however I would like to see the buttons made a bit larger and spread out because sometimes I mis-tap the wrong answer because they are so small. Another recommendation would also be perhaps having the app
Make the sound of the correct kana when you pick the correct romaji to it on the multiple choice. It would be nice for those still learning and like to say the kana as they come. All in all, nice app, and I will definitely recommend this to my friends that are currently learning Japanese. And the best part is that it's free!

Nicely organized and simple to follow
This app is my primary resource for learning the kana and it is wonderfully simple to follow. Each lesson is broken up nicely to be done as a short daily or weekly segment of either the hiragana or katakana and the quizzes are useful practice for recognizing the characters.
That being said, there are two issues:
(1) the kana (at least the hiragana) are based on the "print" versions of the characters and not the hand-written versions. That is fine if you just want to learn to read signs, books, etc.; but if you want to learn to write the kana, you will need a secondary resource for the correct hand-written versions.
(2) you will probably want a notebook (or drawing app) to practice writing down the kana and the examples if you really want to memorize them. The quizzes are nice for repetition, but I find it hard to really remember anything without writing it.
Otherwise, this is nice place to start when familiarizing yourself with the kana and to review what you have learned when you are on the go.

Wow
I have tried many informal teaching methods and multiple products to learn japanese and this by far the easiest and most effective... In my case, most other products either tell you what you need to know, without teaching it to you, or they throw you into the middle of random lessons without giving you a clear understanding... This app is amazing, it gives you a structured lesson order, multiple ways to review, and most of all, it actually works...
The app is free but i would gladly pay for more updates and more lessons from this developer. And i really hope they do continue to update this app with more lessons. I am incredibly greatful, thank you so much!
