About
HLG HEIF files from Sony cameras are made for HDR displays, but other software handles them poorly: Apple Photos clips the highlights and shifts skin and sky tones when it converts them, and professional editors need an involved HDR workflow. Almost everywhere else — messengers, the web, most apps — the photos come out flat or wrong. HLG to SDR/HDR turns them into files that look right everywhere, with natural colors and the detail in the highlights kept.
TWO LOOKS
• BT.2446 — the ITU standard conversion from HDR to SDR. An honest, finished picture.
• Flat — keeps the most detail in the highlights: a starting point for further editing. Only Flat can also write an HDR version.
FOUR FORMATS
• JPEG — opens everywhere.
• HEIF, 8 or 10 bit — 10 bit leaves room for later editing.
• JPEG + HDR and HEIF + HDR — one file with an ISO 21496-1 gain map. Ordinary screens show the SDR picture; HDR displays let the highlights back out.
HOW IT WORKS
• Pick photos from your library or from Files — a card reader, a USB drive, iCloud Drive.
• Frames without HLG are skipped, and the app tells you how many.
• Results go into an album of your choice as new photos. Your originals are never changed.
• Adjustable compression quality; the size of every result is shown.
PRIVATE
No account, no tracking, no data collected. Every photo is processed on your device.
CAMERAS
Made for HLG HEIF files from Sony cameras. Other cameras that write HLG HEIF, such as Nikon Z8, Z9 and Zf, should work but have not been tested. Canon PQ files and Panasonic HSP are not supported.
