About
Watch your own live HLS streams on Apple TV and iPhone.
HLS Streaming turns any HTTP Live Streaming (.m3u8) address into a channel you can surf like live TV. Add the streams you already use — news, events, church services, cameras, your own broadcasts — and switch between them with a swipe.
CHANNEL SURFING
• Swipe up or down on the Siri Remote, or click the top and bottom of the clickpad, to jump to the next or previous channel
• Channel Up/Down buttons on compatible remotes work too
• On iPhone, swipe up or down on the video
• A banner shows the channel number and what's next, and on Apple TV a Channels menu in the playback controls lets you jump anywhere
SUBTITLES AND CLOSED CAPTIONS
• Shows subtitles carried in the stream (WebVTT) and CEA-608 closed captions embedded in the video, including broadcast feeds that don't announce them
• Choose Off, Automatic (follows your Accessibility setting) or Always On, plus your preferred language
• Prefer closed captions over subtitles when a stream has both
• Captions are shown at the bottom center of the picture, or exactly where the broadcaster placed them
• Add your own WebVTT or SRT subtitle file to any channel
YOUR CHANNELS, EVERYWHERE
• Channels and settings sync through iCloud to every Apple TV and iPhone signed in with your Apple ID
• Add a channel on your iPhone and it's waiting on your Apple TV
DESIGNED FOR APPLE TV AND IPHONE
• Big, focus-friendly channel cards with ambient artwork and Continue Watching
• Use a channel's logo, or let the app create a poster from its name
• Test any stream before saving it to check it plays and see which subtitles and captions it carries
• Picture in Picture on iPhone
HLS Streaming plays streams you provide. It doesn't include any channels or content of its own; a few public test streams are included so you can try it right away.
