About
Your kid reads out loud. Honey Root listens.
Honey Root is phonics reading practice for kids ages 6 to 8, in kindergarten, first grade, or second grade, who guess at words, avoid pages, or have decided reading is for other kids. Your child reads short decodable stories aloud and the app hears each word as it is read. When a word is hard, Bloom, a small friendly cactus, helps with the sound, then the next one, and lets your child try again. No timers, no scores.
What a session looks like
A phonics warm-up on one letter sound. A short decodable story built only from the patterns your child has already learned, so every word is one they can work out. Then a reading game with the words that gave them trouble. About fifteen minutes, start to finish. Sessions are built for your child to run on their own. When you have ten minutes, there are stories made for the two of you.
Built on structured literacy
Honey Root teaches the way reading specialists teach kids with dyslexia: sounds first, then patterns, then words, in a set order, with plenty of phonics practice at each step. It is the approach the science of reading points to, and that standard works for every struggling reader. Honey Root is reading practice, not a screening or diagnostic tool. No diagnosis required.
What you see
A weekly note on what your child read, what they tried again on their own, and what comes next. Plain words, nothing to decode.
Made for the youngest readers
Your child signs in with their name and a PIN. There are no ads, no links out, and nothing to buy inside the app. AI helps listen and adjust. The plan comes from reading science.
Getting started
Create your family account, add your child, and find a quiet spot with the microphone on. The first read takes about ten minutes.
