Well made

Best I’ve found so far of the free hk mahjong apps, but still not perfect. Matchmaking/player base could use work. Turn timers are short and auto discard logic is generally not sensible or even present. Some classic hk hands (wind 1-9, dragon 1-9, Beijing garden) are not present. But runs well and is formatted nicely

Good HK Mahjong training app, but wish for a couple improvements

The Kong function is hard to see/find in Advanced games with short timers. I wish the Kong “pill button” was larger/more central/more obvious. I’ve missed it several times. Also wish you could pause games, or have a setting for a longer timeout as people are learning. For games with other humans, all players would need to agree to timeout before starting. Or, restrict timeout setting to single human vs. AI players only.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback — happy to clear up both points. Kongs are fully supported. You can claim a discarded tile to form an exposed kong, declare a concealed kong when you self-draw the fourth tile, and promote an existing exposed pung to a kong with a self-drawn fourth tile. Any valid winning hand is accepted, including hands containing a kong. If a win wasn't accepted, it may be that you were playing an Advanced game, which requires a minimum of 3 fan to declare a win. A hand that scores below 3 fan won't qualify there, even though it would in a standard game. On pausing: that's fair. Online games are multiplayer, so pausing would leave the other players waiting — but we're looking at adding pause functionality for offline games in a future release. If you can share the details of the hand in question, please reach out at contact@mahjonggame.hk and we'll take a look. Thanks for playing!

Great app for learning!

This is one of the better apps for learning HK Mahjong. I like the training mode and the AI bot explains the strategy as the game is in play. I took 1 star off because there isn’t a setting to remove the timer while in training mode. There are instances where you have to read what the AI is suggesting and also make a decision under 10 seconds on your next move. This short amount of time didn’t give me the opportunity to comprehend as a beginner. If a setting is implemented to remove or extend the timer while in training mode, this will be a 5 star app!
