The right tools for learning portraits
I can draw but was curious about the App.
For anyone trying to get the right balance in drawing a face, this is excellent!! It gives you a step-by-step guideline, direction.
After you have done the four angles for the images given, you can always get a photo you like looking in the same direction as one of the examples and try the process. You will surprise yourself!

Only 4 tutorials, but the tips are v informative and useful
I’ve just used it to do my first portrait and it seems like I’ll be able to use and adapt the tips to different faces as I learn and develop my skills. I personally recommend the simple clear step by step instructions.
Very disappointing
I have just purchased this app..not what I expected .. no tips as promised.. I would like a refund..this is not a proper tutorial..there does not seem to be any contact information other than reviews.. refund required ..
Do not get this app!
Caution, if you want this app, be prepared to waste $1.99 on 4 tutorials on how to draw faces. Each consists of usually around 11 steps, and that’s the entire app. I sadly did not look at the rating given and spent this money. I was hoping for a good app to learn how to draw. It turned out that it does neither of those things. To even be worth money it should have more than 4 tutorials. The worst part is that the tutorials are so uninspired. They’re just “Female portrait”, “Male portrait”, and their 3/4 counterparts. Don’t get this app. This garbage shouldn’t be $2 and it should be refunded.
Edit: I read some other reviews and learned that they’ve been the EXACT same complaints for 6 YEARS!

Embarrassed that I bought this
Not interactive and almost no actual content. Shame on me for not reading reviews and checking beforehand. Astounding that someone would charge 1.99 for this. It’s not work that...

I think that this app is not worth two dollars. I think this because it does not state the specific needs to be able to draw a portrait. This app is a rip off!! I would most certainly not recommend this app!! The people who have made this app I want to let you know that I am very upset that I paid two dollars for a piece of crap app! If you could please give me a refund it would be Very appreciated!!!

Sound Effects
Can’t seem to find a way to turn them off.

Thanks for supporting us by purchasing How To Draw! Sound Effects can indeed be disabled. To turn them off press the "i" button on the main menu in front of the words "portrait tutorials". That will bring up an info menu with 3 sections you can chose from on the bottom. Select "settings" and you'll be brought to a page of preferences including the option to turn off "Interface Sounds".
Disappointed
Not interactive as led to believe. While it’s good information it’s more of an ebook with a painful interface rather than a drawing tutorial app.
Not enough choices
How can only 4 drawings cost $1.99 USD...what am I missing?
Useless App
You cannot even practice in the app, its just a bunch slides with a few steps to draw 4 fixed faces. I cant believe they featured it in the Appstore
It's okay - no Apple Pencil support
I thought you could draw with the Apple Pencil and follow along with the illustrations from the app. It still a good resource on learning to draw. Not a deal breaker for the price.

This is just a guideline. This is not interactive. You have to draw with a paper and pen. RIDICULOUS!!!

I thought this app would be really helpful in teaching me how to draw realistic people. For starters, there's only 4 pictures to draw, 2 female, 2 male. Secondly, they don't tell you how to do it. They'll say something along the lines of "now draw the eye" but they won't tell you how to do it or specific shading or other details. Finally, it was just confusing. I found myself getting lost VERY OFTEN because it didn't go very simple step by step. This app is a horrible waste of $2

Great and useful!!!
Great app for beginners or a refresher course for those who've taken a break from the art world. Matt Busch's app is awesome.
