About
CPCE HRV Screening is a professional heart rate variability (HRV) data collection app designed for academic research. It helps researchers collect physiological data from tertiary students in Hong Kong for studies on stress and depressive symptoms.
Key features:
Automatically reads heart rate variability data from Apple Health
Secure upload of data to research servers
Intuitive data visualisation charts
Data handling that complies with academic research ethics requirements
This study is organised by the School of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. It aims to collect and analyse participants’ HRV data to explore patterns of stress and mood among students.
Participation is voluntary and all information is kept strictly confidential. The research team may access HRV data from participants’ Apple Health or Google Fit accounts for research purposes, collecting only HRV-related information (e.g. heart rate, HRV values, and timestamps). Data will be retained for twelve months after the project ends and then permanently destroyed. Some data may be processed or stored by third-party service providers (including but not limited to cloud storage, secure backup, or analysis). All such handling is subject to strict confidentiality and data protection agreements.

1.2.0
June 3, 2026
This update improves HRV syncing by updating your existing cloud record instead of creating duplicates. The home screen now shows when data was last synced, displays loading on the Sync button, and provides clearer messages when chart data is empty or needs to be synced from Apple Health.
