What's New in HuntShield
1.2
September 30, 2026
Lidar comes to HuntShield: see the ground under the trees, stand where you'll hunt before you go, and find the thick cover. LIDAR ON THE MAP • New Lidar layer: 1 m bare-earth terrain from USGS, with the trees removed, so benches, saddles, draws and old logging roads show up. It says where lidar exists and when it was flown. • Features: HuntShield marks likely saddles, benches, pinch points, ridge points and the heads of draws. Tap one for what it is and why it matters. • Brush: shades where the cover is thick two to ten feet off the ground, read from the raw lidar scan, and says whether the scan was flown with the leaves on or off. • Lidar can be included in offline map downloads. STAND VIEW • Drag the Stand View figure onto the map and look around in first person, built from the real USGS lidar scan: the actual trees at their measured heights, the brush, rocks and logs, and the lay of the land. • While you drag, the figure floats above your finger on a target ring that marks exactly where it will land, and blue on the map shows where the real scan exists. Elsewhere you get a model from terrain and canopy data. • Look from the ground, a ladder or a tower, and tap the ground to walk. • Save a stand and it opens with no signal. FIXES • Fixed a crash when opening some species in the Season Guide, including Mississippi waterfowl. • Sunrise and sunset for a hunt area now show in that area's own time zone, with the zone named, and are a few minutes more accurate. • Hundreds of season dates re-checked against 2026-27 state regulations, with new Colorado and Nevada big game hunts. • Falconry-only and youth days no longer read as open to everyone. PLANS • Hunter now starts with a 14-day free trial. Plus many smaller fixes and improvements.
