About

HVAC Load Calculator CSA F280 is the residential load calculator Canadian HVAC contractors actually want to use. From the team behind HVAC Load Calculator (Manual J) — 2,000+ downloads since our winter launch on the App Store. We rebuilt what field techs trust for Canada: CSA F280-12, postal-code climate data, and metric-first workflows — purpose-built for Canadian codes. Same offline-first design, auto-save, PDF reports, and site photos you already know. BUILT FOR CANADIAN HVAC PROS Unlike software shoehorned onto mobile, we designed this for techs on-site. Fast calculations in basements. Professional reports that win homeowner trust. Metric by default — m², kW, RSI, °C — with a full imperial toggle throughout the app and PDF exports. THREE LEVELS OF ACCURACY Simple Mode – 7 inputs: Regional climate benchmarks from your Canadian postal code and floor-area factors. Get an estimate in under 60 seconds with zero measurements. Perfect for quick quotes and initial sales conversations. Moderate Mode — 16 inputs: Component-level factors — insulation grade, windows by orientation, foundation, blower-door ACH50, CSA F326 ventilation — with a conservative safety buffer. Prevents undersizing while staying accessible for non-engineers. The sweet spot for standard replacement jobs. Pro Mode – your measured values: assembly R-values (RSI), actual above-grade wall area, basement wall depth and below-grade insulation, NFRC window U-factor and SHGC, and HRV/ERV heat recovery. Every input feeds the CSA F280 calculation directly. Free – no upgrade. BUILT FOR CANADA Enter your postal code — we resolve province, city, and design conditions from NRCan HOT2000 weather data mapped to your Forward Sortation Area (FSA). Coverage from mild coastal BC to Arctic climates. WORKS IN THE FIELD Offline-first — no signal in the basement? Everything runs locally. Auto-save projects. LiDAR room scan (iPhone and iPad Pro) fills floor area, ceiling height, windows and wall perimeter from a walk-through. Professional PDF reports — the document you hand to a homeowner, an inspector, or a rebate application. Tagged site photos with location labels and notes in report appendices. Optimized for iPad. THE MATH YOU TRUST Calculations follow CSA F280-12 residential space heating and cooling load methodology: – Heating load (kW or BTU/hr) – Cooling load — sensible and latent (kW or BTU/hr) – Recommended AC or heat-pump size – real catalog sizes inside the F280 sizing window – Recommended furnace or heating appliance size (5,000 BTU / kW increments) – CSA F326 continuous ventilation and HRV/ERV recovery – Below-grade and foundation heat loss – Equipment sizing guidance for AC, furnace, and heat pump options – Full component breakdown – walls, ceiling, windows, doors, foundation, infiltration, ventilation, latent – that adds up to the headline load Tap How Our Calculator Works for a plain-English guide to every input and how it shapes your results. Follows CSA F280-12 methodology — the standard referenced across Canadian residential HVAC practice. Not affiliated with or certified by CSA or HRAI. WHY CONTRACTORS CHOOSE US Modern, intuitive interface that makes sense the first time you use it. Dark mode and system theme support. Fast performance, even on older devices. Privacy-first: your project data stays on your device. And it's completely free. PERFECT FOR HVAC contractors, installers, and service techs across Canada. Heat pump and dual-fuel system installers. HRV/ERV installers sizing ventilation loads. Sales teams quoting new systems. Independent contractors building their business. Energy advisors and high-performance builders. Contractors preparing load documentation for provincial heat-pump rebate programs and permit applications. No account. No setup. Just open the app and get to work. What's New in HVAC Load Calculator CSA F280

1.4.0

August 26, 2026

Pro Mode is here — and it's free. • Enter your measured values: assembly R-values (RSI), actual above-grade wall area and perimeter, basement wall depth and below-grade insulation, NFRC window U-factor and SHGC, and HRV/ERV recovery efficiency. Every Pro input feeds the CSA F280 calculation directly. • The load breakdown now lists every F280 component — walls, ceiling, window conduction and solar, doors, foundation, infiltration, ventilation and latent — and it adds up to the headline load. • Equipment sizing snaps to real catalog sizes inside the F280 sizing window, and tells you when no standard unit fits. • Cleaner forms: inputs the F280 method doesn't use are gone. • PDF reports list the Pro overrides you entered. • New sanity checks catch window areas that can't fit the walls they sit in.
