About

ICTI is a brief digital intervention intended to reduce the frequency of intrusive memories after a traumatic event, developed by researchers and clinicians over two decades. Intrusive memories, sometimes called flashbacks, are images or moments from an event that come to mind when you don't want them to. They can be distressing and can disrupt everyday life. The intervention has three parts: PICTURE: briefly bring an intrusive memory to mind. PIVOT: learn to play a visuospatial computer game using "mental rotation". PLAY: play the visuospatial game for a set time. You will not need to think about your experiences in detail or talk about them with anyone. You work through one intrusive memory at a time, at your own pace, on your own device. The first session takes about 40 minutes; after that you can use the intervention as many times as you need to target any other intrusive memories. The app also includes short instructional videos, a diary for tracking your progress, and an optional daily reminder. IMPORTANT ICTI is a research tool. It is not intended as a diagnostic tool and does not provide medical advice. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, or replace professional medical or mental health care. If you need support or are concerned about your physical or mental health, please speak to your healthcare provider. Do not make changes to any medication or treatment plan without consulting your healthcare provider. ACCESS ICTI is used as part of a research study in partnership with the University of Southampton. You need an enrolment code from your study team to create an account. If you have not provided consent to take part in the research study and have not been given a code, you will be unable to access the app. Your study team is your first point of contact for any question about taking part in the study and using this app.
