About
No sign-up. No account. Free.
Shamaru-kun is a camera app that embeds proof of authenticity into every photo and video you take. Open it and shoot — that is all.
The proof uses the industry standard C2PA (Content Credentials), the same standard adopted by Adobe, Google, Sony and Leica, so anyone can verify your files with tools such as contentcredentials.org/verify, even without this app.
What is recorded
- That the file is a camera capture, not AI-generated
- The capture time, the app, and the device model
- A tamper-evident hash: any single changed bit is detectable
- Optionally, the capture location
The signing key never leaves the Secure Enclave
The key used for signing is created inside this iPhone's Secure Enclave and cannot be extracted. Not even Shamaru-kun can read the key itself.
No internet access by default
By default, Shamaru-kun blocks its own network path. Your photos, videos, location and signing key stay on this iPhone. No ads, no analytics, no account.
Optional: sign with the company certificate (only if you turn it on)
- "Sign with the company certificate": Apple's App Attest confirms that this is a genuine copy of Shamaru-kun on a genuine iPhone, and our certificate authority issues a certificate for this device. The app connects once a year and sends only its public key and Apple's proof
- "Sign on the company server": each time you shoot, only a 32-byte hash of the signing data is sent to our server to be signed. Photos and videos are never sent
- Both are off by default. Turn them off and the app makes no network connections at all
A full camera
- Photos (JPEG or PNG), video (MP4) and audio memos (M4A)
- QR and barcode reading, processed entirely on device
- Resolution, aspect ratio and quality settings, zoom, tap to focus, flash, exposure compensation, grid, self-timer, burst
- Portrait mode, spirit level, long-press to lock focus and exposure
- Home screen widget
Check your files
- The gallery shows the signature status of every file
- Share with a proof card: an image summarising what was proven
- Read the credentials of photos, videos and audio received from other apps
- Connect to a computer and copy the original files out as they are
Honest limitations
- It proves that the file has not been altered since capture, and that it was recorded as a camera capture. It cannot prove that what is pictured is true: photograph a screen showing an AI image and that, too, is recorded as a camera capture
- Social networks and messaging apps re-encode images, which removes the proof. Send files as files to keep it
- Until an official certificate is issued, verification sites show the issuer as unrecognised. This does not affect tamper detection or the recorded information
