About

ਅਖਰ is a free, offline workspace for researchers of Gurbani. Begin with a word or passage, then follow its written forms, surrounding composition, recurring words and source references. Keep the SGGS close as your questions lead to new questions. SEARCH AND FOLLOW Type Gurmukhi with the iOS keyboard or the optional PDF-layout keyboard, whose keys show their Gurmukhi output. You can also paste text copied from the bundled PDF. Search exact words and phrases, compare observed spellings, or find separated words in a source line, adjoining lines or an inferred whole shabad. MAP A COMPOSITION Open a cited passage to see candidate verse spans, source-marked ਰਹਾਉ and printed numbering in reading order. Inspect the exact source clauses behind each span. Raag, Mahla and Ghar are shown when stated in that reading group's source heading. The map marks uncertain boundaries; extracted clauses are not verified printed lines. EXPLORE ITS WORDS See prominent exact written forms in the selected composition, their occurrence counts and every contributing source row. From a word, investigate other words that recur nearby or in inferred compositions. A small curated set of possible contextual word links opens its cited SGGS passages. These are leads for study, not automatic synonyms or established interpretations. COMPARE WRITTEN FORMS Compare observed vowel and nasal spellings while keeping bindi, tippi and other marks distinct. Inspect unusual double modifiers in the Reference section. Each form retains its own exact count and source evidence. READ, QUOTE AND REFLECT Read a passage in nearby or inferred whole-shabad context. Open the bundled SGGS PDF, follow subtle search highlights and swipe to adjoining pages. Share a quotation with its SGGS · Ang reference after checking the source. Save passages and develop a private living glossary with contextual readings, questions, lived reflections and dated revisions. Recent searches and Resume help you return to your inquiry. Source text, search and research tools work offline; notes stay on your device unless you choose to share or export them. No account, advertising, subscription or cloud AI is required. Counts describe written occurrences and textual proximity. Composition divisions, grammatical roles and possible relationships remain open to interpretation; check the source before quoting.

Explore a composition from any cited passage. A new map follows candidate verse spans, source-marked ਰਹਾਉ and printed numbering in reading order, with the exact SGGS source clauses one tap away. Raag, Mahla and Ghar appear when stated in that group's heading. The composition view now highlights prominent exact Gurmukhi words, their counts and contributing source rows. It can also lead to a small set of possible contextual word relationships, with cited evidence from across the source. Written-form comparisons, recurring words and double modifiers remain available in Explore. Research works offline. Composition boundaries and verse divisions are inferred; source clauses are not verified printed lines. Numbering roles and possible word relationships remain open to interpretation.
