Not so accessible

I have been reading the Statesman since University Days. First saved by my parents and delivered as a care package while I served overseas, then delivered to my front door when I came home. Later to my mailbox. Rates kept inching up, although the overall quality did not. I loyally followed along when we went digital, at least the costs were more aligned with what I was paying for other subscriptions.
Somehow now digital stopped working. The song and Dance I got when queried was I needed to upgrade my iPad to series 17 (whatever that means). Now to access my “paper” I can use my phone (kind of like viewing the world through a tiny periscope). Or go through a multi step process to access the subscription on my iPad. A painful daily exercise that may not be worth the effort.
Gotta say I am getting too old to enjoy the new fangled digital age.
I hope I am still around when subscription renewal comes along next year. I am not sure I can suffer the foolishness of newspaper access gladly.

Poor format

This paper is probably the most poorly formatted and inconsistently performing e-edition paper I’ve ever encountered. I’ve decided to not renew my e subscription due to my frustration level with the clustered never ending ads, the ads that invade the center of an article during reading and page interruptions where the screen reboots mid read.
The response team’s recommendations did not resolve the issue. No need to respond. We will not be renewing subscription.

Statesman is OK but limited

I read the Statesman for local news and local editorials, which are pretty good. NY Times for serious news and commentary.

Barely worth the subscription price

Barely worth taking the trouble to cancel

No stars from a long time subscriber.

My iPad is about 10 years old.It works just fine. However, I cannot download iOS 17.0, and the new Statesman app requires 17.0. I will no longer be reading the Statesman.

Although I have called several times it continues to be a struggle to sign in to my statesman account.

terrible

would give no stars if possible.
smaller page image. forced upgrade for less use !
and the page is smaller to have added banner ad at bottom of screen! yay ! more tracking :-(((

Leans

Lib pushing in a Red state. Idaho needs more conservative news station. They would be huge overnight

Poor performance

As of about 2 weeks ago the app will not load random articles on my iPad. Several days ago I received a notice that they were “working on it.” It is very frustrating to not be able to access so much of the content. Not what I paid for!

App Inop

App doesn’t recognize subscription so cant access articles. Waste of money until they get app working. Problems same on iPhone and IPad.

Where’s the paper?

I was unable to navigate through your new layout. Are you trying to get people to go back to the paper version? Total mess.

Latest “upgrade”a bust

Change is fine, but it’s supposed to make improvements. This latest upgrade sure doesn’t. Doesn’t load, bottom half of page is covered with an ad. Shouldn’t have to be an IT expert to read the paper.

Hardly usable

App consumes a large amount of storage and does not seem to release it when clear cache is selected. In fact it was using 28 GB of storage when I happened to look. The only solution is to periodically delete the app.

Printing is erratic. Sometimes I get a blank page, sometimes a partial page, sometimes nothing.

Organization of the online edition is horrible. Sometimes sections are completely missing, sometimes just out of place.

App Works Well

I originally posted a review that said my app would never open unless I deleted and reinstalled it on a daily basis, but it looks like I just needed to power down my iPad every once in awhile. My fault. Not the app’s. Overall, very happy with my digital subscription!

Version 9.2 Keeps Exiting Articles on IPhone 14

Something about the most recent version of this app (9.2 at the time of writing) has made it impossible to read articles. About two weeks ago when it was released, I started having issues.

I’m on IPhone 14, and everytime I click into an article, I have only a few seconds before it kicks me back to the app’s main news page. It may or may not have something to do when the final elements of the page loads in (aka ads), but it’s basically made the app unusable. Which is a shame because I’m paying for a digital subscription and I find their website utterly unfriendly.

I will update this review if they can release a patch or minor version that gets rid of this issue, because otherwise, the app worked rather well.

Buggy, often to the point of being unusable

The app is often unusable. I open articles and they automatically close back to the Home tab, sometimes immediately and sometimes after several seconds. I reopen the article and hope that I’ll be able to read some more, but often the article auto closes before I can even scroll down the where I left off.

Also, ad placement is often intrusive, often appear in crazy places like between a section header and the first sentence of the section.

App is glitchy

Navigating the app to find news is nearly impossible. Unless it is one of the four stories on the page, you can’t select a subsection like local or sports. The app will temporarily go to the subsection but immediately go back to the home page. If you choose one of the notifications from your phone, all of the remaining news notifications disappear. Being unable to navigate to the other stories from your notifications is impossible, even if you search for the headline.

Gone so woke

When I was a kid back in the day everyone had the statesman and it was a great form of news for resource for the state of Idaho. now they are so socialist and have even condemned people who hold religious beliefs. They no longer produce good news and I am very surprised they are still around in a conservative state.
