Great app

This app is a life changer for IRC and me. When I got it, I expected it to be riddled by pay-to-win features, but turns out it wasn’t. There is still a ‘pro’ option, like a typical freemium business, but I can access my IRC of choice easily. When I first opened the app and saw ‘Port, host name, client, invalid certificate, etc.’, I groaned because in the past, those have been confusing and backfired constantly. Not this time. I toggled some switches and googled the hostname and I was good to go. 10/10 would recommend.

Inaccessible

Dark Theme should not be a paid feature, as dark backgrounds are a necessity for people with vision issues. Capitalizing on accessibility issues by forcing those who need a dark background to pay for it in order to even test the app - since a white background fails accessibility guidelines - is highly unethical and should be reconsidered.

Any response other than "agreed" by the developer will land this app featured in a case study on unethical UX design to a wide audience on a popular tech publication. Cheers

Response from developer

The app used to be a fully paid app, the new free version is essentially a demo.

Can't keep channel panel open in portrait mode

I wish either the channel names were either listed at the top with horizontal scroll like my Androud client or it would let me keep channel panel open in portrait mode. Without these options, it's difficult to know when new messages have come in and easily switch channels.

Response from developer

There is a feature you can enable to swipe through channels which you may like. If you swipe left or right in the center of the chat view you'll go through the channels, otherwise, if you swipe from the far left or far right you'll still get to see the channel/user lists. It's really hard to support what everybody imagines for an IRC client in one single app and especially on a tiny screen compared to desktop.

The BEST iOS IRC Client

Igloo is by far the best IRC client for iOS and is worth the purchase. The channel management, straightforward interface, and ZNC support are excellent. Apple unfortunately restricts background network activity which is no fault of Igloo, but it reconnects very quickly. ZNC or another bouncer highly recommended.

Love when an app just works

Quickest 7 bucks I ever spent on an app to get some dope functionality

Response from developer

Glad you like it :)

Best IRC client on ios

Use it daily. Connect to a znc bouncer with multiple networks. Worth it!

kudos, 10/10

was looking for an IRC client that can download files and this worked perfectly with a one time payment of $6. compared to other IRC apps on the market, the UI doesn’t look like it’s from 2008.

also loved reading the dev’s response to some silly goofy reviews lol.

Response from developer

Glad you like the app and the review responses :P

Removed Split View support

A “modern” app without Split View support? Stage Manager may be used for multi-tasking, but with very limited window sizing options for Igloo. Split View provided better functionality.

Response from developer

Unfortunately this is an unintended result of a fix for everyone complaining about stage manager not working on iPad. It seems it's one or the other and honestly, stage manager seems way better since you can open many apps, resize, and place igloo wherever you want.

Keyboard doesn’t work on M2 iPad 12.9

The keyboard either doesn’t work or covers up the area you type in. Very frustrating.

Almost perfect

This app does everything I need it to and it saves me from having to fire up my pc to use irc. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that I can’t change the location of my downloads or set a new default location.

Response from developer

I've considered it but it's just too much effort for a super niche thing in the current setup. There is a full rewrite of Igloo that was started a while back that may get released one day, it'll be much easier to implement things like this there.

Keyboard not showing up on iPad

I’ve been looking for a reliable irc tool for iPad, as I’m trying to replace my laptop. I heard good things about Igloo and decided to give the pro version a shot. However, the iPad execution is terrible, as the keyboard is not showing up (it does on iPhone), so it’s almost impossible to type a message on iPad. Update: the developer answered and says he can’t replicate the error. The error occurs when a Bluetooth keyboard is connected to the iPad. Update: the input box is sometimes hidden when the Bluetooth keyboard is connected. I added a star, but there certainly is a bug.

Response from developer

This is just default iPad behavior. An app has no control of it. Apple decides to hide the virtual keyboard if a physical one is detected unless you specifically click to show the virtual again. It makes sense if you think about it, there's very few reasons for wanting the virtual when you have hardware in front of you.

Best IRC for iOS / iPadOS

I’ve tried many IRC clients but this one is by far the best. Well organized, solid features, great ZNC compatibility, and lots of settings. Thanks!

Worst one

Has to be the worst IRC client I’ve ever had the misfortune to use.

Best irc app

You’ll see!

Reposting review since old review was removed

Loved the old app and was happy to support it. This version wants me to pay a second time. Developer has been very hostile when asking for help with this.

Update: yep, still the same.

Review

I have the paid version

I paid for this app and expect not to be tracked.

With iOS 15’s new App Privacy Report feature, I have discovered that even a paid IRC client will perform data analytics and send logs off to Google’s servers. I expect there to be absolutely no tracking of my app usage when paying for an app such as this. I have since uninstalled this. Those who are privacy conscious: beware! UPDATE: To the developer: Do you want me to process a refund request for your aggressive and hostile reply? You don’t deserve $10.

Response from developer

An alternative to your stupid review could've been, "can you add an option to disable tracking?" And my answer would've been "yes". Anything that's collected is strictly for crash reports. UPDATE: Yes, please refund. Also, you're aware that Apple without your permission tracks usage and crashes right? You should probably refund your iPhone too.

Look elsewhere

Developer has abandoned the project and seems to have let his personal issues bleed through.

App lacks support

The app developer lacks proper support.

Don’t bother

Support for this app is non existent and the developer only wants to argue with customers over his own personal issues.
