What's New in iLightningCam AI

5.2

November 4, 2026

• Troubleshooter in the More menu: when something doesn’t work, the app guides you step by step to the fix – with pictures, explanations, and a button that changes the right setting on the spot. After four minutes without lightning, the app asks by itself. • Motion Guard in the More menu: movement makes detection more cautious (on by default). For handheld shooting you can turn it off – the app then stays fully sensitive; false triggers are possible. • Lightning by mail: in the strike view, pick up to three images and send them as HEIC at full resolution – not downsized, without going through the Photos app. • Support with a picture: choose an image from the Troubleshooter and send it to us together with your device details. • Manual: Troubleshooter, Motion Guard and lightning by mail explained. • Bug fix: after a focus calibration, detection could stay blind for good when switching to night mode.

Response from developer

Detected few, like studio

Auto missed quite a few, is there an option to capture any?, lightning is very unpredictable though, so choosing what i want, its all types, would love to be able to change the FPS on capture rate, seems to be automatic? i got the studio in app purchase, would love to be able to access previous photos taken with the old app and edit in there, and also with some photos taken elsewhere, possibly even open a video and extract the lightning from a video i took in slow-mo

Response from developer

Dear user Thanks for the stars! Yes lighting strength is hard to predict! Therefore we have the auto mode , which gets more and more sensitive the longer there is no intense detection . The other modes are for experienced users , but at the end you can only guess , we agree . Detection sensitivity and exposure sensitivity are linked . If you got only a few of the observed strikes , it sounds like it was distant sheet lightning I would switch to sheet lightning or manual with iso > 800. for many functions studio uses a complete package of information of ILightningCam AI . Therefore we describe in the app description that the import of old images is not possible . We might offer a part of the functions in the future for imported images , but we cannot promise this yet . If you send us an image to the support mail, we can tell you , if postprocessing is reasonable for it , given that we do not have the full set of infos of the new app

Seit Jahren zufrieden

Response from developer

Response from developer

sorry to hear, there will be a major upgrade in the next days

Response from developer

FAQ

How does iLightningCam AI capture lightning without me pressing the shutter?

iLightningCam AI continuously monitors the camera feed and uses AI to detect lightning strikes in real-time. Once a strike is identified, it automatically captures the image at that moment, eliminating the need for manual intervention.

What are the benefits of the AI in iLightningCam AI?

The AI in iLightningCam AI is used to determine optimal parameters for lightning detection and post-processing. This results in improved detection accuracy, especially in bright daylight, and better image quality by analyzing thousands of real lightning images.

Does iLightningCam AI create fake lightning images?

No, iLightningCam AI is a genuine photo app and does not use generative AI to create images. The Studio add-on only optimizes and enhances your own captured shots, never creating artificial lightning.

What are the requirements to use iLightningCam AI?

iLightningCam AI requires an iPhone with iOS 17 or later, or an iPad with iPadOS 17 or later. For best results, it is recommended to use a tripod or steady support and have a clear view of the storm.

What editing features are available in the iLightningCam Studio add-on?

The optional iLightningCam Studio allows you to combine different phases of a strike, repair image defects like dark edges, crop, and fine-tune light and color. You can also save your creations as images, Live Photos, or video clips.

Is iLightningCam AI suitable for capturing lightning during the day?

Yes, iLightningCam AI has significantly improved detection capabilities, especially in daylight against a bright sky, with fewer false triggers. It offers specific modes like 'Near Lightning' and 'Distant Lightning' to optimize daytime capture.

How does iLightningCam AI handle focus and exposure for storm photography?

The app features automatic exposure and frame rate tuning specifically for lightning photography. It also includes focus calibration for each lens, optimized for storm conditions, and a horizon line analysis to prevent interference from objects below it.

What is the update frequency for iLightningCam AI?

The app was last updated on November 4, 2026, indicating a recent update. While specific update frequency isn't detailed, the developer has a history of maintaining and updating their lightning photography apps since 2011.
