Can’t download Videos back to my iPad

So I backed up my entire iPads photos and videos. The photos I can download back and forth from my USB to my iPad and vise versa but when it comes to the videos, I go into my USB hardcover through the app and I can’t download them back into my iPad, how is that possible!?
With photos I have the option but not with my videos, THIS IS SO ANNOYING!

MKV / AVI & Co won‘t play

Video that‘s saved on the phone won‘t play unless it‘s MP4. Strange because it works fine in every App I tried from direct from the stick.

Uses Space on Your Phone

I bought the 32GB lightning usb flash drive so I could take longer videos since my iphone is only 16GB. But with the device plugged in, I took video through the app except it used storage space from my phone. I don't know if i'm doing it wrong or what but it saves it to the flash drive automatically and when i unplug it, my phones storage is freed up again.
