About

Independent Vet helps you find veterinary practices that are locally owned and independent, not part of a corporate or private equity chain. It's the independentvet.com map on your phone, with tools for looking after your pets. FIND AN INDEPENDENT VET • Browse a map of practices across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, each marked as verified independent, claimed by its owners, academic or nonprofit, or listed and not yet verified. • Search by practice name, city, ZIP code, Canadian postal area or UK postcode. • Filter by services such as emergency, 24/7, urgent care, specialty and exotics. Corporate-owned practices can be shown too. • See who owns each practice and, for verified practices, the evidence behind it. • Call, get directions or open a practice's website. Report an issue or suggest a missing practice right from the app. • Take a guided tour of an area's independent vets: choose Tour this area in the map's + menu for a few cards on who owns the practices nearby, and where to go in an emergency. MY VETS AND EMERGENCY • Save your primary vet, up to three emergency vets and other practices you trust, with private notes. • Get an alert if a saved practice is acquired or its ownership changes, with nearby independent alternatives. • Share your list as a PDF with a pet sitter or family member. • Open Emergency for the nearest 24/7 independent hospitals, your own emergency vets and animal poison control, even without signal. PETS AND RECORDS • Keep a profile for each pet: breed, birthday, weight, allergies, conditions and microchip number. • Scan vaccination certificates and other records with your camera. The text is read on your phone and the details are filled in for you to check. • See which vaccines are due, search your records, and share them as one PDF with a new vet, a sitter or a kennel. MEDICATIONS AND REMINDERS • Scan a label or start typing a name to add a medication. • Flexible schedules, from twice a day to every three months, with start and end dates. • Dose reminders you can mark as given from the notification, refill reminders and quiet hours. SHARE WITH YOUR HOUSEHOLD • Share pets with family or a pet sitter, so everyone sees the same records and medications and knows when a dose has been given. • Invite someone in person with a QR code, or send a link that you approve. VET JOBS • Browse jobs at independent practices and send an expression of interest straight to the practice. NEWS FROM INDEPENDENT VET • Open the Inbox in Profile for news and short surveys from Independent Vet. FOR PRACTICE OWNERS AND STAFF • Practice owners and staff can sign in to manage their practice: edit the practice's message and post jobs. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No ads, no analytics and no tracking. • Pet records, scans and medications are stored on your phone, and scanning happens on the phone. • An account is optional. With one, My Vets and your settings follow you to a new phone, and your pet records are backed up end-to-end encrypted, unlocked with Face ID or your recovery key. We can't read them. • You can delete your account and its data from the app at any time. Verification describes who owns a practice, not the quality of its care. Independent Vet doesn't diagnose or give medical advice; always ask your vet about your pet's health.

What's New in Independent Vet

1.3.1

October 24, 2026

New since 1.0: • Tour your area: meet the independent vets near you. Find it in the + menu on the map. • Practices on the map: open a practice from My Vets, Emergency or a pet's page and see it on a map you can move and zoom. • Share my records: one PDF of your pets' profiles, vaccinations, medications and scans for a new vet, a sitter or a kennel. • Ask for your records: write an email asking your previous vet for your pet's records. • Inbox: news and short surveys from Independent Vet, at the top of Profile. • Manage your practice: practice owners and staff can sign in to update their message, post jobs and see who's interested. • Emergency suggests verified practices only, with more on what each one offers. • A clearer saved star, and many smaller improvements.
