About

You sit down at your desk, open a book somewhere and start reading. A few hours later you close it and ask: "So what did I just learn?" "...I'm not sure." That isn't the odd lapse in attention — it's the pit nearly everyone studying on their own falls into. Study without direction turns hours into effort that leaves nothing behind. Xiyu Memory Cards was built to end that: strategies research has validated again and again, turned into a daily tool — a clear goal before you start, your takeaways gathered afterwards, and a spaced-repetition algorithm working against forgetting. THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT • A goal first (goal-directed attention): a specific purpose filters out what doesn't matter and settles your focus on what you came for. • Takeaways afterwards (generation effect + metacognitive monitoring): saying what you learned in your own words is the generation effect; writing down what's still unclear checks whether you really understood it. Your brain retrieves instead of rereads — and what you retrieve stays far longer. • Against forgetting (spaced repetition): a card comes back just as you're about to lose it, turning a short-lived trace into a lasting memory. ONE SESSION, FOUR STEPS • Before — set a goal: one sentence on what you want to get done. Thirty seconds, and the aimless reading stops. • During — stay focused: a Pomodoro timer breaks the work into stretches and reminds you to rest your eyes. Sparks and questions go down on the spot. • After — gather takeaways: speak them or photograph them. About a minute to set down what you learned and what's still unclear. • Long term — review that holds: once a question has an answer, add it to your review plan; which card comes back when is no longer yours to track. WHY IT STICKS A spaced-repetition algorithm (FSRS) works out review timing card by card, from its own memory state. You rate yourself on instinct — "remembered" or "forgot" — and the interval stretches or contracts to match. Cards you keep forgetting are gently singled out, so you can go at them a different way. Attach an exam to a subject — school entrance exams, IGCSE, IELTS — and as the date nears, review of that subject tightens automatically, carrying what you know to exam day. ALSO INSIDE • Voice to text: say it and it's written down. • Photograph problems: capture a question as it is and quiz yourself on the original. • Knowledge wall: look back day by day through every takeaway you've written. • Growth without comparison: streaks, levels and badges, measured only against your past self. No leaderboards. • Widgets: your streak and card count on the Lock Screen and Home Screen. • Your data stays yours: export or import a full archive any time; works fully offline. WHO IT'S FOR Anyone who needs knowledge to last: school study and exam preparation, IGCSE / A-Level / IB, graduate and professional exams, language learning, self-directed study. What's New in InkBrook

1.1

July 31, 2026

What's new in this update: Geometry cards Imported cards can now carry plane-geometry figures. Lines given in the problem are drawn in ink; the ones you're meant to work out yourself appear as coral dashes. The front shows the problem, the back reveals the construction — training you to recognise the shape at a glance. One card, both directions Double-sided cards from batch import can be marked "test both ways", so review asks you from the front or the back at random. Ideal for vocabulary, element tables, and anything symmetrical. Flip-card practice Pick any set of cards and quiz yourself whenever you like, without waiting for them to fall due. Practice is never written into your review plan — your existing rhythm stays exactly as it was. Practise what didn't stick The review summary now offers "Practise the N you missed" — flip straight back through the cards you just marked "forgot". Free to use, and it leaves your schedule untouched. Now in four languages English, Japanese and Traditional Chinese have been added, following your system language automatically. Feel and fixes Motion and haptics have been reworked throughout the app — flipping, navigating and tapping all respond more closely to your touch. Fixed: tapping blank space wouldn't dismiss the keyboard; card formatting could be lost when moving your data between devices.
