About
Drag. Spell. Drop.
Trace a word across the letter bubbles. The letters fall into place.
No clock, no points, no lives — only stars.
Inkwell is a calm word puzzle hosted by Dis, who is there from your very first board. Clear every word on the list and the board is done.
HOW TO PLAY
• Press a letter and drag to the bubbles next to it, diagonals included, to spell a word from the list.
• The letters you used fly down into their slots and everything above them drops into the gap.
• Every board can be finished. Each one is built to be solvable, and a dead end reshuffles itself without costing you a star.
• Trace a real word that isn't on the list and it counts as a bonus word.
TODAY'S BOARD
A new board arrives at midnight — the same board for everyone playing in the same language. Clear it to keep your streak going, then take on the master board: longer words, a deeper stack, hosted by Glöd.
500 LEVELS
An adventure map winds upward through ten worlds — Forest edge, Meadow, Beach, Open sea, Tropical island, Desert, Mountain, Summit, Cloudline, and Night sky. Boards start small and grow as you climb, and every tenth level ends in a chest.
EVENTS
Midweek Dash, Weekend Sprint, Word Marathon, and Star Rush run for a few days at a time: a set of boards with a reward at the end.
STARS, NOT TIMERS
Three stars for a clean board, two if you used no more than two shuffles or hints, one after that. Play a board in one sitting or leave it and come back tomorrow. There is no clock.
NINE LANGUAGES
English (US, UK, and Australia), Swedish, Danish, Dutch, German, Spanish, and French. Each has its own dictionary and its own boards, and you can keep the menus in one language while you play the words in another.
MORE TO FIND
• Streaks, with freezes that cover a missed day
• Today's goals: three small targets that reset at midnight
• Badges, stats, and a calendar of everything you have solved
• Eight creatures to collect as you play
• Share your daily result as a picture
• Tap a word you found to look it up on Wiktionary
• Music, sound, and haptics you can turn off, and a Reduce Motion setting
HINTS
A hint reveals a word's first letters, or lights up a whole word for a moment. New players start with three. After that you earn them by playing: today's goals, the first clear of today's board and of the master board, event rewards, the chest every ten levels, every fifth bonus word you find on a new board, and streak milestones. You can also watch an ad for two more, or buy a pack of 5, 20, or 60 hints.
INKWELL PLUS
An optional subscription, monthly or yearly:

• No ads
• Every past daily board, not only the last seven days

What's New in Inkwell Word Puzzle
1.0.3
October 1, 2026
• A new app icon: Dis, your host, writes INK. On iOS 18 and later, it also comes in dark and tinted versions for your Home Screen. • Every answer word in every language has been reviewed. Names, abbreviations, words from other languages and words that don't suit all ages are no longer answers, and crude words no longer count, even as bonus words. • Because of this, almost every board has new words, even ones you've already played. A board you were partway through starts over; your stars, streak and progress are kept.
