You're already making fantastic progress—I’ve listened to your before-and-after recordings, and the improvement is remarkable! Prof. Alex also shared some wonderful feedback on your pronunciation work. He was particularly impressed with how you've started producing the American R sound much more naturally. This is a significant achievement, especially considering your background in Jamaican English, which often uses a lighter R—or drops it altogether at the end of words. Linguistics feature of Jamaican [r] In Jamaican English, the R sound tends to be non-rhotic, meaning it may be soft or even omitted in words like car or better. When R is pronounced, it's often produced closer to the front of the mouth using the tongue tip. In contrast, American English is rhotic—the R is pronounced in all positions, using a retroflex or bunched tongue position, with more lip rounding and tension. Shifting from that Jamaican-style R to the American /ɹ/ takes awareness, control, and consistent practice—and you've done it! Your effort is clearly paying off. AI part learns well how you do that and helps you understand it even better!
