Long overdue for an update

Brilliant app! — but it hasn’t been updated since 2017 and doesn’t fill the larger screen size of the iPhone X/XS/11.

However, the Rough Guides Phrasebook app — which is essentially the same app, made by the same software developer but with the Rough Guides branding, has been updated in the past year and is fully compatible with the latest iPhones. If you’re thinking of getting this app in 2020/21 to complement the Insight Walking Eye app then first check to see if it’s been updated and if not get the Rough Guides version.

To the Insight Guides publisher — please get the developer to update this app to support the latest iOS versions. Thank you!

Pretty awesome

Went through the Cantonese phrase booklet and then through this app. I’m so glad I found this, it’s really amazing. It’s hard to find resources for Cantonese that are so extensive, mind you. Many thanks, again!

As I’ve already known a bit of Cantonese, I found a lot of it accurate and amazing. It sounds quite like native speakers. Perhaps all of it, but I thought the ‘au’ sounded weird is all. Maybe that’s just me.

Anyway, pretty much everything is easy to access and well organized, which I thank you.
But the in-app keyboard for searching characters was only recognizing English letters, and no Chinese symbols. Putting in 二 got ‘L’ or ‘t’. The settings seemed fine though. Though Apple does have a keyboard for Chinese, which solves that.

For suggestions, I think if you could possibly play audio in the background and have the app cycle through words, it would be mind-blowing. Though it’s already mind-blowing.

Plus, I don’t know why your Insight Guide Phrasebook for Cantonese says Cantonese speakers “speak Cantonese”, but “write/written in Mandarin Chinese”. Mandarin is also spoken, as is Cantonese, not written. The characters are Chinese, not Mandarin Chinese.

Not bad at all

App offers native speakers' pronunciation which helps greatly. I'm a little confused by the flashcard "quiz". I'm supposed to choose whether the English translation of the Croatian phrase is true or not, but it seems that the answer is always true... I don't know if there is an option to make the answers dynamic. Other than that, pretty happy with the app.

Handy but quiz doesn't really work!

Handy to have a searchable dictionary in my pocket. Although it's a shame that the true or false quiz doesn't work as a quiz as it gives the correct answer every time.. It also only has pronunciation for some phrases.. Would of given 5 stars if it hadn't been for these things.

Disappointed and frustrated.

I was disappointed and frustrated with this product. Not only was the French version Spanish, but it only gave me the basic phrase translations. To unlock the other categories cost another $6.99. I don't recommend this to anyone. It's a rip off. Thankfully Apple refunded my money.

Phrase Book & Dictionary.

Today I bought the Japanese Phrase Book. Very informative, I will be using it to learn Japanese. The app itself has taken a long time to download, and the code is very long. I understand you can only have one app for the books, but maybe make it a tad easier to get too. That is why my review is 4s. Thank you for helping me along with my learning.
