Social Security Number is now optional when searching (name and date of birth alone are enough to run a search, with a clear on-screen warning about reduced accuracy without it). Your SSN, if you provide one, is now permanently deleted from our database once your report is generated — we no longer retain it. Fixed a display issue where entry fields could appear with a doubled border.

Background Check
Run one criminal background check
Instant Background Check is a personal-use tool for individuals seeking peace of mind. It allows you to search national criminal records, verify SSN authenticity, and check address history before meeting new people or allowing contractors into your home.
The app is free to download and use. Each background check is a single in-app purchase, meaning you only pay for the individual searches you run. You are not charged if a search cannot be completed.
No, your Social Security Number is used only to run your search and is permanently deleted from their database once your report is generated. SSNs are always encrypted while in use and are never shown in full.
No, Instant Background Check is not a consumer reporting agency and its reports are not consumer reports. They cannot be used for employment, housing, tenant screening, credit, insurance, education, or professional licensing.
Information is compiled from public record sources and may not be complete or accurate. Searching without an SSN matches on name and date of birth only, which carries a higher chance of a false match. It is recommended to verify all information independently.
Instant Background Check is available on iPhone, iPad, and iPod, indicated by its compatibility with iOS devices.
The app was last updated on September 5, 2026, indicating recent maintenance and potential improvements to its features and performance.
Instant Background Check has an age rating of 12+, suggesting it contains content suitable for users aged 12 and older.
