About

Instrumentuner is a free instrument tuner for iPhone. Tune guitar, bass, ukulele, or violin, or use chromatic mode to follow the nearest note. Tap Start listening and play one note at a time. The orange marker and cents reading show how far you are from the target. Side lights indicate flat or sharp, with a green center light near the target. Frequency in hertz appears below the cents reading. CHOOSE YOUR TUNING Guitar: Standard, Drop D, and DADGAD. Bass: Standard and Drop D. Ukulele: Standard and Low G. Violin: Standard. Chromatic: Follow the nearest note without a string preset. AUTOMATIC DETECTION OR STRING LOCK Instrumentuner automatically finds the target string in your chosen tuning. To lock a string, open Instrument & tuning at the top left and choose it in the String menu. The sheet closes so you can keep tuning. Tap the LOCKED indicator or its X to return to automatic detection. Your instrument, tuning, and targeting choices are remembered. FEEL YOUR WAY TO THE TARGET Optional haptic feedback pulses as you approach the target, speeding up from 10 to 4 cents away, then stays on within 3 cents. Feedback follows the displayed reading and stops when you pause. ADJUST YOUR SETUP Open Settings with the gear. Choose Fast response or Smooth, which reduces movement but responds more slowly. Under Tuning options, set the A4 reference from 430 to 450 Hz to match another instrument or ensemble; 440 Hz is the usual setting. Turn haptics or cents display on or off, and use the system appearance or choose Light or Dark. AUDIO STAYS ON YOUR IPHONE Pitch analysis happens on your device. Microphone audio is never saved or uploaded. The app has no accounts, ads, tracking, or in-app purchases. Listening stops when you pause or leave the app, and does not restart automatically when you return. Requires iOS 17 or later. Use one note at a time; Instrumentuner does not identify chords.
