No longer useful

This used to be the go-to app for Overlanders. No longer, it’s expensive and the interface is confusing and doesn’t really seem to work anymore. Sad, I’ve used it all over and contributed check ins which hopefully have helped others, no longer unfortunately.

Great app, kinda…

I find this app 10x more useful than the many “free” camping apps I’ve downloaded before. As a full timer, a lot of these hidden gems are better than paid campgrounds and state parks. Sites are reviewed more often and more recently too, giving me peace of mind that I won’t waste gas hunting out a dead location. So thanks to the community for that!

As for the app, it’s a mess!!! Favorites list never populates. I have to zoom in on the map and look for the hearts. I paid for annual unlimited, but having to download everything à la carte seems counterintuitive. A lot of the features are just buggy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. And I don’t like the lack of privacy. I have a very unique name and a very public online profile and now I’m hesitant to leave any kind of review out update for fear of someone noticing it’s me.

Still a staple for a full time nomad but I hate having to muddle through the mess. As a developer myself, I know for a fact it wouldn’t take too much effort to fix the UI features at least. Even Claude can vibe code something a bit more functional than this 🫤

Horrible app now

The new app makeover sucks. The format is horrible and everything has a paywall now. Once a great app now its useless.

Scam Ads

In trying to edit a site I was presented with a clock here to continue button which opened a scam website trying to convince me it was apple telling me my phone was infected and tried to open the dialer

Great Info/Horrendous Interface

The campsite and information in this App is awesome. The real issue is the map. For example, I’m in the Yukon and cities/towns are few and far between. The only way to find a town is to zoom all the way in and scroll down the road until you find the town you are looking for. It’s exhausting. Bigger labels when you are looking at a provence or state could cut your search time in half.

O pior aplicativo que já usei

Me senti roubado ao ser descontado ainda no período de teste. Viajamos pela Argentina e Chile mas esse app não repassou nenhum local seguro para passar a noite. Fuja enquanto é tempo

Response from developer

Delete all and all check ins

5 years on the road, 2 years since they deleted the original app (that worked perfect) 2 years of waiting for the new app to get better and the owners and developers are clearly out of touch and have zero interest in making this app better for the community that literally built it. Delete all your pins and move on to better options.

The Better options:
OnX (paid) layers that matter: BLM land, active wildfire, smoke layer and cell phone layers
The Dyrt (free) getting better every single day as long term users say goodbye to iOverlander forever
Hipcamp (paid) find amazing camps and support local farmers, ranchers directly. They’re also working to do something similar like hut to hut in the US

Stingy app that ruins parking spots

This app used to be the standard for van life. Not anymore for a few reasons:

1. They have taken years of people’s contributions and decided to leverage that into a paid app. That is borderline theft of content from well meaning users.

2. Don’t kid yourself about the “fremium” model. Do you want to see more than one state or province? Need to pay for that. Do you want to see a translation of a review that somebody wrote about a spot in French? You need to pay for that. Do you want to scroll without being bothered by constant pop-ups? You guessed it, you need to pay for that.

3. Abuse and overuse by certain users has made it so that spots listed become a nuisance for locals and therefore end up with no overnight parking restrictions. It is bad enough that you could almost use this app to decide where NOT to park.

In the end, we are in a different era than when this app was launched. The developers of this app became greedy and some of the users who are less than respectful that as well. This app is now worse than useless, but it costs more than ever.

Echt jetzt?

Sehr penetrant, ich konnte noch nicht mal testen und soll schon bewerten? Leude!

Helpful

So this app has been super helpful. However, I am a little disappointed in the fact that if someone marks a location as closed, iOverlander automatically marks it as closed on the map. One of my favorite places got marked as closed. I’ve been in the area twice and went in and asked and this location is NOT closed! Someone marked it as close out of spite or to be funny, who knows. I’ve tried to comment and state that it isn’t closed and now I can’t even access the location at all on the map! It’s a shame that people do stupid stuff and iOverlander doesn’t confirm any of the information.

Payants

Bonjours j’aime beaucoup cette application quand elle était gratuite on a rempli cette application de données gratuit.. un coup quelles fonctionne et il y a des données il charge trop cher ,, je veux bien payer mais je pense que c’est exagéré..

Incredible app

We have been using ioverlander for several years and love it! So thankful for it!

Disgusting

This is promoting illegal camping on private land. It should be banned. We take no responsibility for how illegal campers on our private wildlife reserve will be treated by our security forces patrolling for poachers.

WTF

WTF guys, there is no Russia on the list, but Ukraine 🤦🏻

Continuously getting worse

This app has gotten progressively worse over the years.

Average app, no free trial as promised

I signed up expecting 1 week free trial to review this app, however I got billed the same day so I’ve now cancelled it and won’t be resubscribing.
There are other apps that are cheaper and provide similar information. iOverlander is way too expensive bearing in mind the data it displays is provided by its own users and considering how widely this app is used, £10 a month, or even the annual sub, from each subscriber, is just a crazy amount of profiteering.

There is literally nothing here

Google maps is more useful

Not finding much

We need to find water and dump stations when we boondock and so far we aren’t getting much of anything on this app

Super useful

Super useful. I have always loved iOverlander and have used it for years even when it was free. I do miss the free version though this is a nice upgrade. Albeit I think it is kind of overpriced.

Used to be good

This app was better before the paid version. Now navigation is more difficult and other bugs and weirdness. People also don’t seem to be updating things as closed/unavailable or adding new locations(I’m one of those people that don’t update/add things anymore). Sadly just can’t depend on the app any more. Dyrt now my go to.
