About

ippun is a 60-second kanji workout for people learning Japanese. It's a supplement, not a replacement. If you already have a main routine — an SRS app, a textbook, a class — ippun targets one specific gap: turning kanji you "know" into compounds you can read at speed. You know 学, but can you read 学校, 学生, 学習, 学者 the moment they appear? Each run is one minute. Eight rounds. In every round, you get an anchor kanji at the center and a tray of drifting characters. Find the real compounds. Match them before the timer runs out. Repeat tomorrow. It's small on purpose. The minute isn't a constraint to game around — it is the workout. **What's inside** - Thousands of compounds, sourced from JMdict and reviewed against JLPT vocabulary tiers - **Standard mode** — four difficulty presets: Easy (N5–N4), Normal (N3–N2), Hard (N2–N1, the ones that catch even native readers), and Mixed (an even draw across all three) - **Focus mode** — pick the kanji you want to drill, and the game builds the session around them Made carefully, for one purpose. We read every email — if a compound looks wrong, a reading is off, or you want to suggest something, write to us.
