About
It's 2026 and social media feeds are full of AI. But you can stand out as real with IRL CAM.
SO HOW DOES IT WORK?
You might think you can use our app to take a picture of something you've seen online. And we'll tell you if it was AI-generated or not. Which would be incredible. But unfortunately, today's AI is so good it's impossible to do reliably. Even social media (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) can't.
Instead, you'll take a new picture or video. We use the iPhone's fancy tech to verify it's a real-life scene. Then give you a stamp proudly showing it's real. So anybody who looks at your photo or video can be confident it was a real person, place or thing that happened.
Each stamp also includes a web address where we publish the original photo (or video stills), so anyone can spot alterations.
IS IT FREE?
Yup! As long as our server costs don't eat us alive. We do limit original photo or video stills being online to 30 days after publication, to keep our server costs from multiplying.
OK, I'M INTERESTED. WHAT ARE SOME REASONS I WOULD NEED TO LET PEOPLE KNOW MY PHOTO/VIDEO IS REAL?
1. Let people know on social media you're a real person (which really means something in this age of fake AI-generated influencers!) Or that you really made it to the Grand Canyon. That you really shook hands with Pedro Pascal. That you really look like this, no filter.
2. That you truly put the effort into something cool. That's not an AI-generated ceramic sculpture. You spent dozens of hours molding and kilning this awesome piece, all while being nervous about the outcome.
3. You're on Facebook Marketplace. Take a picture of the vintage chair you're selling to let buyers know it is, in fact, flawless. You take good care of your stuff!
OK, I'M ALMOST CONVINCED. ONE LAST QUESTION: WHO MADE THIS AND WHY THE HECK SHOULD I TRUST YOU?
Good question. You should definitely be asking that. IRL CAM was made by Benjamin Wong and Daniel Lim (with help from Karsten Krejcarek). We realize those names probably don't mean anything, but we're real people that have been around the block building apps, websites and more. Twenty-plus years ago, when the internet felt more underground and alternative, we were bright-eyed about its potential.
But over the last decade, we've watched the internet become overrun with bots, corporate interests, and AI-generated content. After getting too many fake AI videos from our moms, aunties, and friends, we had to do something. IRL CAM is that.
We're still optimistic the internet can be a positive place. But first, we need to get rid of the fakeness before there's nothing real left.
Anyway, if you still don't trust us, you can always drop us an email at irlcamapp@gmail.com!
P.S. WHAT DOES IRL STAND FOR?
In case you didn't know, IRL stands for "In Real Life." It probably became popular when all the millennial kids used it in chat (remember AIM?!)
