Engineer

The program is eventually operable - you need to clear all the dimensions until all that's left are the three X's and hit "done". It should then come up with BUILT UP in the shapes box. Now you can type in your plate dimensions and get the properties calculated. The developer should fix this or at least include the start- up directions. Very frustrating at first!

Just a short I beam table. Not much use for design. Guess u take ur chances with apps.

Structural Engineet

I thought this app should be great! But it is actually a trash! The first thing you see in the app was a section showing a built- up section. Intuitively I knew that the blue texts were inputs. I change the units to inch. Then i began changing the dimensions. When i finished, all it said was that " there are no matches found"! What? It wasn't supposed to find any matches at all, I thought it was supposed to calculate properties based om my input. And where are the built in library for hot rolled shapes? And all those things that the developer promised that this app would do, like giving me the allowable stresses... Was this program created by a real structural engineer who really knows what a structural engineer need? I dont give it any star at all. In fact, if this app is not fixed, this should not be included in the App Store.

Does not work correctly

When entering a stock section name, there is no way to select from the list which is shown, and the last section seems to be selected from the list. For instance, if you type "w12x19", a list including W12x19 & W12x190 appears, but it is not a pick list. If you click Done, you get properties for W12x190 rather than W12x19. Also, as with iConcrete, the properties seem to randomly switch from inch to mm. Why do we need "mm" properties for the US/AISC standard sections when the design community and trades are NOT going metric within the next decade?

FAQ

What structural properties does iSection calculate?

iSection calculates key properties such as moment of inertia, modulus of section, radius of gyration, area, and weight for built-up section members. These calculations are performed in both principal axes for comprehensive analysis.

What types of steel shapes are included in iSection?

The app features a library of hot-rolled shapes including European IPE, HEA, HEB, HEM, American W shapes, Canadian W metric shapes, and British universal beams and columns (UB and UC). More shapes from other countries will be added in future free upgrades.

Can iSection handle different unit systems?

Yes, iSection supports input and output in both millimeters (mm) and inches (inch). Weight can also be displayed in kilograms per meter (kg/m) or pounds per foot (Lb/ft).

Is iSection available on Android devices?

Based on the provided information, iSection is currently supported on iPhone and iPod Touch devices only. It is not listed as available for Android.

How often is iSection updated?

The latest version of iSection is 1.41, which was last updated on October 10, 2021. This indicates a release cadence of approximately once every few years for major updates.
