About

The doors open at Fiumicino, you walk out past the carousel, and the phone is already on an Italian network — no counter to find, no plastic SIM to lever out with a paperclip. All of the work happened the night before, at home, on the Wi-Fi. Italy eSIM is the prepaid data plan that makes that morning possible, written for travelers arriving from outside Europe: Rome for a long weekend, Florence and the Tuscan hills, the vaporetto stop in Venice, the drive down the Amalfi Coast. How it goes, start to finish 1. Sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a code we email you. There is no password to invent and none to remember. 2. Choose a plan — a calculator in the app helps you pick the size — and pay with Apple Pay or a card. 3. Shortly after payment the eSIM is ready. Installing is one tap on the iPhone, a QR code, or the details typed in by hand. Give it a couple of minutes and a connection, which is why this belongs at the kitchen table rather than at the gate. 4. Land, switch the line on, and you have maps and messages before you reach the baggage belt. 5. Through all of it the SIM you already have sits where it is, still holding your number: calls, text messages and WhatsApp arrive on it as usual, while the eSIM does nothing but data. Reading this from a hotel in Rome instead? Buying, installing, topping up and reaching us work from there just as well. What there is to buy • The data runs on Italian networks: 4G/LTE, and 5G where the network offers it • Fixed data packs, day passes whose length you choose anywhere from 1 to 30 days, and unlimited plans • Unlimited, said plainly: the data never cuts out, though once the daily high-speed amount is behind you the pace stays lower until the next day • Going further? Regional plans cover Europe (40+ areas) and Europe (30+ areas), with fixed data or day passes — no unlimited option there • Prepaid and one-off. Nothing renews by itself, so there is no subscription waiting for you at home • Your balance runs live, with a heads-up before it is gone; while an eSIM still has time left on it you can top it up in the app, whichever plan it carries, and once that time is up you cannot • Several eSIMs sit side by side, so next year's trip does not start from scratch Before you buy, look at the phone: it has to take an eSIM, it must not be locked to a carrier, and it has to be an iPhone XS or newer on iOS 15 or later. Cellular iPads with eSIM work too. Anything unclear, ask us: in the app, on WhatsApp, or at support@italyesim.app — italyesim.app. And buy as early as you like. An eSIM still uninstalled, with no data used on it, is paid back in full when you ask within 15 days of the purchase, and nobody asks what changed.
