About

A price you can check beats a price you are told. Point your camera at anything — a camera body at a yard sale, a chair in a thrift store, a watch that has sat in a drawer for twenty years — and Value Checker names the exact model, grades what it can see, and gives you one realistic second-hand figure with the range to list between. Then it shows the working. WHAT ONE PHOTO GIVES YOU • The exact item, not the category. "Canon AE-1 Program with the FD 50 mm f/1.8", not "a camera" — with the variant, the years and the materials. • What it is worth today. One realistic resale figure, a quick-sale to patient-sale band, and how that compares with what it cost new. • The breakdown. Four lines with signed percentages: the market baseline, the condition grade, the box-and-papers premium, and demand or rarity. Every number is explained, not announced. • Sell, hold or keep. Argued in a few sentences, never a single word. • Where to sell it. The kind of marketplace this thing actually moves on, what to ask, when to list, and one thing to do first that raises the price. • Three things you did not know. Every appraisal teaches you something concrete about what drives value in that category. THE METHOD, STATED OUT LOUD 1. Name it exactly. The near-miss model is often nothing like the price of yours. 2. Find the baseline — what this exact model, in ordinary working condition with nothing extra, has recently sold for, outliers at both ends discarded. 3. Adjust for condition in one fixed step, not a fresh guess. Mint about +30%, excellent +15%, good is the baseline itself, fair takes off a quarter, poor more than half. 4. Adjust for the set and the market. Box and papers add around a tenth, a hot market another tenth, a slow one takes more off, genuine rarity adds again on top. 5. Round to a number a human would say out loud, then draw the band: 20% off for a quick sale, 25% on for a patient one. That band, not the single figure, is what you list between. Same five steps, same order, every time — which is why you can argue with one step without throwing away the rest. LEARN THE THING, NOT JUST THE NUMBER A Learn section on the four pillars — demand, condition, completeness, provenance — and on the habits that cost the most: reading asking prices instead of sold prices, anchoring on what you paid, and forgetting the fifth of the price lost to fees and shipping. BUILT FOR PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY RESELL • Seventeen categories: electronics, photography, watches, jewelry, fashion, sneakers, furniture, art, collectibles, instruments, books, toys, tools, sports, vehicles, homeware. • Every appraisal kept in a searchable archive with its photo and its figure. • A one-page report as a PDF or an image. Free, always. • A valuation tip every couple of days, if you want them. • English and Spanish. GOOD FOR Thrift store runs and estate sales. Clearing a house. Deciding whether the thing in the loft is worth listing. Pricing before you post. Knowing what to say to a lowball offer. An estimate from one photograph, not a formal appraisal. Built to help you price with confidence — not to insure, settle an estate, or replace a specialist on something genuinely rare. SCANS, SUBSCRIPTIONS AND PACKS Appraisals run on scan credits. Premium subscriptions include an allowance each period: Weekly $4.99 (25 scans), Monthly $14.99 (120), Yearly $99.99 (1,800, with a 7-day free trial). Prefer to pay once? Scan packs of 10, 50 or 150 never expire and are not capped weekly. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and renewal is charged within 24 hours of that date. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited on purchase. Manage or cancel in your Apple Account settings. Terms of Use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/
