JAF Collection User Reviews

Top filters

I’ll second the other review. These are really good filters that sound superb. There should be a mountain of positive reviews but strangely there isn’t. I’ve been using this app for quite a while and I’m never disappointed

Immense

This massive collection of filters is absolutely essential for anyone interested in extreme sound manipulation and all forms of experimental/adventurous music. On first use, I took a very bland, mid pace drum loop and within 30 secs mangled it beyond recognition. The sonic possibilities of this app are limitless. Don’t sleep on this one.

Greatest of the filters!

Latest updates have stopped aum from recalling settings!? :/ any help would be great.

One of the best filter available for iOS

This is one of best sounding filters on the ios platform plus the developer is very responsive.

Best iOS filter I’ve heard

Jens Guell’s AU plugins shouldn’t sound this good.
I like them so much I’ve even put analog gear through them....to make them sound even more analog!
Ok, that might sound perverse (it is), but although there have been bugs (which normally get quashed) and although there’s a distinctly quirky interface (which I personally like) I honestly haven’t heard anything like this on iPad. Something that instantly oozes warmth, grit, anlaloguey goodness, and at such bargain prices.
The list of filters here are great, to have so many choices of filter is such a luxury, imagine the cost of this in hardware form...!
All this would be meaningless if they didn’t sound great. But they do. Very much so.
QED.

Desert Island Filter App

Underrated dev. I used the free JAF Model One AU so much I felt I owed it to the creator to buy the full version. No regrets! Amazing collection of filters, so many great modelled filters in here, grits everything up nicely & makes everything feel alive. Reminds me a lot of the brilliant Sherman Filterbank I used to have. If you write hard music like Industrial, Grime, etc, you want this.

Only thing I’d love to see in the future is some sort of note off or gate for the Oscillator section. Kind of irks me hearing it everytime I load a project using it. When it’s on, it’s just always ON.

Dream come True!

I have been hoping for something like this for iOS for a long time. Just the thing to help my synth sound stand out and take care of any harshness. Just WOW!

Excellent DSP in these filters

A great range of filters with excellent functionality. They really standout from other filter apps in my experience and are a great value. The updates have improved the functionality of the app in a wide variety of hosts so it’s good to see them supporting their app so well.

The latest update significantly improved the visibility of the GUI so you can see it even if your vision is less than perfect.

Response from developer

Thank you very much for the review! We see the contrast problem, so the next version update (1.4) will focus specifically on this problem with a drastic improvement by more consequently adjusting the main color, when using the contrast slider. This was not solved optimal yet. We will realize this with automatic background-foreground color inverting, which works quite good as some internal tests have shown yet. Regarding the small labels, we suggest to zoom into the view temporarily, as we extra for such reasons (readability) implemented the advanced pinch2zoom feature into all our audio units. Once the labels and control positions are known, this should not be a problem any longer. Aesthetically it would be a problem just making all these labels bigger permanently. We tried that already and were extremely unhappy with the result.

Could be better

GUI needs work

Response from developer

Thank you for the review! A new update (the fourth) is in progress. We changed several things with the UI multiple times. Unfortunately we cannot read the wishes of the users from their mind, even if the statements are quite generalized and not concrete. However, we see, that there are some issues, and the next release will try to fix such issues, which are obvious to us. The UI is actually the part of the development, that required significantly the most time yet with this. We wanted to go new ways in design and usability of Audio Units with the UI. But such way seems to be quite long and stony.

Rocks

Using this on everything. Quick and easy way to get your mix on. Either simply using a high pass to clean up low frequencies or getting into the saturator &/or modulator and reshaping your sounds, this is a great tool for quick, quality filtering. For me, this is an essential app for iOS music production.

An interesting set of quality filters with an interface I like

I like the controls, quality, and variety. You have a lot of control over sound without having to dig too much into the interface, so you can start tweaking easily and quickly. Great response from developer who got AU3 integration issues resolved quickly.

Response from developer

Hello. The maintenance update 1.3 is ready and will fix the AUM parameter exposing issue and other things. The update will be shipped tonight and should be available for download soon. The App Store review process always needs some time (at least 24 hours). We are sorry for this.

I wrote a 5 star review

It disappeared... here’s another try. Great group of filters. All of this devs apps are great.

AUv3

Splendid Audio Unit! Nice clean sounding saturation w/ lots of models to mess around with. Definitely a contender to FAC if you’re a fan of that collection of audio units. My only gripe is the location of the brightness adjuster, find myself accidentally hitting it when tuning knobs on the virtual unit. Solid work, thanks!

Thank you very much for your kind words! (and those 5 stars!) The first maintenance update is underway, fixing some important issues with the user interface and the touchscreen behavior. This update also adds a new modulation destination „FSHIFT“, a Bode-alike frequency shifter. We could have been removed some other reviews for some reasons here with the new version number, but we still will left these in place, so that the(se) users are able to actually see our enthusiasm and our goals clearly... I invite you to contact me directly, if you have found any more issues or have suggestions and ideas for improvements. The support link is on the product page on our websites; because of the App Store rules I cannot put the address here directly into the message. Thank you very much! We are so happy!
