Love this app

The practice is amazing.
Overtime you’ll be able to see your stats on which verbs your getting we’ll be which verbs you tend to make mistakes on.
My only wish is to use these stats to help encourage the quiz content. So it focuses on my struggle areas

Confusing

Very confusing. Tough to figure out how to do anything on this app

Cheap and Good

There's not much to this app other than a few explanations on each conjugation and the ability to create some tests to complete. The tests are great for me as I learn from repetition. I only paid £1 which was well worth it. The main thing I like is you can create your own tests which suit your needs. Well worth a quid!

Can you add this feature?

This application is very useful, as it is helping me in making significant advancements towards fluency.

Nonetheless, I would have liked a feature that allows us to select a specific verb or adjective and then receive related questions on it.

Could you incorporate such feature?

Many thanks!

Horrible

Does not even have simple conjugation for the word “ borrow “

Great learning tool

This app is a great way to drill verb and adjective conjugation, allowing you to focus on specific areas that are giving your trouble. The immediate and context specific explanation that pops up for any mistake is a great help. With the Japanese keyboard on, you can dictate responses which is a great way to work in pronunciation! Can’t recommend highly enough!!

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the kind words, and I'm glad you like the app! Don't be too afraid of adjectives. There are a lot less rules for them than there are for verbs so its not nearly as confusing haha.

Perfect for drills

I’ve been looking for a way to drill verbs and adjectives based on proficiency level and this is perfect.
Once I set up my preferred test settings I found I could just work through whilst doing other menial tasks, such as waiting for the bus 😊
There are so many options to select or not select, which is fantastic as I am still a beginner to the language.
One thing I would love is a proficiency rating against each verb/adjective so I can then focus on my weak areas. If this exists please let me know.
But for the minimal cost and fantastic output I would say this is amazing value and worth adding to your daily language tasks.

Great concept. Room for refinements.

Tried out this app for this first time today and there is a lot that I really like about it.

Verb conjugation has always been the hardest thing for me to study in my quest for mastering Japanese because it’s not the kind of thing that you can just learn the rules and then easily apply. There are just too many verb types and verb forms that then connect to too many different verb endings/modifiers to keep things straight. It really requires a lot of drilling to internalize everything.

This app has great flexibility to create a ton of different tests to drill any specific conjugation you want to work on, while also allowing you to adjust other variables like: vocabulary level or lists used, # of questions, multiple choice or direct input, and characters shown (Japanese, hiragana, romaji, English meaning).

These functions are absolutely great, even if it means the user needs to take some time creating and refining test parameters.

The elements of the app that could use some refining are mainly to do with aesthetics. The font size is really hard for me to read, so I wish that was adjustable. Also, the multiple choice functionality is kind of useless because it seems to select conjugation forms from the list of actual correct conjugations for each verb. It would be far more useful to have incorrect conjugations that are close to the correct form rather than other correct forms of the verb that are clearly other meanings than the desired answer. However, this would obviously require a lot of additional programming and work, so I understand why it was done the way it was. But again, this means the multiple choice option for tests isn’t going to really be helpful.

In the end, this is a great app and I would be happy to pay far more than the asking price, especially if I could make the font bigger so I don’t have to squint so much.

Thank you so much for the valuable feedback and I'm glad you like the app! The font size scales with your device's font size. If you go to Settings -> Display & Brightness -> Text Size then you can increase the font size. In regards to the multiple choice part though, that is an interesting suggestion. You're correct in that it chooses 4 correct conjugations which makes it very easy to pick out the actual correct answer since they tend to look so different. I didn't think about adding slightly incorrect versions of the correct conjugation as choices though. I'm not 100% sure how i would go about doing that without it looking like gibberish, but that would definitely be a good addition to the app. I hope that helps you with the font size issue and thanks again for the feedback! I'll try and make the multiple choice tests more useful in the future

Does what it says

Overall does exactly what I was looking for: an app to drill verb conjugation easily in short bursts (waiting in line, appointments and so on).

Only missing 1 star at the thing I'd really like is an option to hide romaji. My eyes tend to latch onto them first, which hinders any reading comprehension improvement.

A similar toggle for kana would also be useful for similar reasons.

Other than that, no complaints!

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback! I couldn't agree more with your complaint because my eyes do the same thing. However, there is an option to toggle off romaji and the hiragana. While taking a test there is a display icon in the top right. If you click on that you can change it to hide romaji or kana. Hope that helps!

Great learning tool

This app is a great way to drill verb and adjective conjugation, allowing you to focus on specific areas that are giving your trouble. The immediate and context specific explanation that pops up for any mistake is a great help. My only quibble is that the interface for setting up quizzes offers an option for choosing fill in the blank or multiple choice, it I have never been able to select multiple choice - it just doesn’t seem to really be an option. One other suggestion, it would be great to be able to modify an existing quiz rather than needing to set up a new one if you want make a tweak like adding another JLPT group or changing the number of questions. Overall, though, a great tool!

Excellent app

I started taking Japanese lessons again after a few years and I realized I’d forgotten a lot of conjugations! This app is helping me drill but also review grammar rules and even some kanji for verbs I need in class.
I love you can customize tests and switch between hiragana and kanji anytime! I teach Spanish and I wish there was an app like this for my students!

Fantastic app

Great app that is easy to use and an absolute must when it come to learning conjugation. Great customisation as you can tailor the tests to your needs.

My only criticism is that it doesn’t contain any ‘want to do’ verb form conjugations.

Response from developer

I appreciate the feedback and that sounds like a great idea! I will add the tai conjugation in the next update.

Great app for practice!

this is the type of stuff that I need my tech to do for me — make things i have to do easy. put it on a plate for me to consume. it very simply sets up your exercises and you can *just practice* without friction. highly recommended

Please add a saved vocabulary list!

Great app for practicing verbs that I come across. But if I could save those verbs to later make a test out of, that would be amazing! For example, if I were getting a conjugation wrong, I would like to be able to practice it again at some point instead of hoping I’d randomly come across it on a quiz! Thank you!

Response from developer

That sounds like a great idea! I might not get to it this year since the next planned update is to let you conjugate from more than just the dictionary form of the verb, but it's something I will keep in mind for future updates. Thank you for the suggestion!

Great app

Straightforward interface, customizable tests, simple conjugation lessons included for reference.

If you are looking for a quick and easy way to drill conjugation on the go, this app has everything you need.

Very useful

I botch up conjugations way too often. This app is giving me a lot of practice to help me overcome it.

Edit: developer pointed out that I’m too dumb to notice the settings icon! Hah, works absolutely perfectly! The only way to improve the app now would be if the developer would stop by my home and wash my cars. Thanks for the app!

Response from developer

I'm glad the app is helping you practice! If you click the 文 in the top right of the test, lessons, or stats screens it will open a display settings menu that lets you turn off romaji. I hope that helps.

Latest Version Crashes (FIXED)

EDIT: The new version fixed the crash and everything is back to normal

ORIGINAL REVIEW: The latest update makes this app crash at startup, making it completely unusable. There is no contact method on the website, so a review is the only way to get in touch with the developer.

Response from developer

There was a database issue when upgrading from versions prior to 1.2 to the latest update. I next version 1.3.1 will have the fix for it and should be out soon. I am terribly sorry for this inconvenience. I will also add a contact section to the website, however if you still have issues after 1.3.1 goes live please send me an email at dwilliamsl80@yahoo.com.

Nice app

Very useful app, simple and does exactly what it needs to.
Just thought you should know, the latest update caused the app to crash every time I attempted to launch it on iOS 13.3, but deleting+reinstalling seemed to fix it.👍

Response from developer

The app crashes when going from the first database version to the third database version. I have fixed this issue and the next update (1.3.1) will include the fix and should be out soon.

Just was I was looking for

I was looking for a conjugation app on IOS since quite a while and this came along on Tofugu. The app works perfectly, I like the fact take I can turn the landscape mode, so I can mirror the 8+ display to the 43” TV and have a very nice experience. Thank you very much indeed !

Good app that still needs some work

Great app to work on your verb conjugation. There are still a few bugs but nothing major.

Response from developer

I'm glad you like the app. If you wouldn't mind, could you email me at dwilliamsl80@yahoo.com with the bugs you are experiencing, so I can try and fix them.
