Alright, maybe I’m way too late to this party, but I just bought the Joby Swing, so I’d expect it to be at least somewhat current in updates?…
So issues are: makes too much noise for on camera microphone. Too bad. Not a deal breaker.
Forcing the phone to record in their own app? If you expect a videographer to abandon the video app they use on their phone, you’ve GOT to make your video app a lot better than bottom line basic.
Better option: DON’T improve the camera aspect of your app, but allow us to activate the swing and leave the app without recording IN the app.
Even better: one press turns the swing on, a second press activates it to run the full distance, at a user defined default speed.
There. Now we’re using the item we bought, instead of struggling with the app you’ve put in our way.
My requests: one touch presets: (it’s annoying to hold down the direction button until the swing travels all the way across its distance, to mark the start point, then hold down the other direction button while the swing travels all the way across its distance to mark the end point. Geez. I’m setting up quick. Let me save a few distance+speed presets, so I can just start shooting.
Don’t make me use your app for recording.
Allow a one touch physical button to fire up a quick start default speed+distance.
Thanks guys. Hope you’re still in the office!

Koby Spin will not update…

The JOBY Motion app will not work with the Joby spin device because every time I try to update the software in order to open the interface, it failed. I must’ve tried a dozen times over two days and I got nothing but failed to update. Junk!

Such a disappointment

I feel like this app could be 5/5 if Joby would just do an real update that allows the users to lock their white balance and hard select what lens was being used. Until that happens this product is falling WAY short of what they promise to mobile creators.

UX is soooo so bad!

1) It's only working with this awful cartoon-style app. You can't use it with default's camera time-lapse mode, or even just camera. You must use their app.

2) That means you can't use it with other devices like point and shoot

3) App seems designed for kids, not adults, or creators. It's clunky and awfully inhumane. At the 0:35 Tim stating that Joby is going to update the app regularly. This is not true. Last update is 4 month ago and it's just 'updated icon'.

Overall, this could be a great product. But they have failed meeting customer's expectations.

Needs work, a LOT of work

So, you need a JOBY Spin or Swing, fair enough. But the app assumes that the phone you are using is on the device. It turns the camera on and keeps it on like it’s recording even if the phone isn’t on the device. So not usable at all if using a 2nd phone, a GoPro or small point and shoot camera on the device. They also made the app work on a ipad… this makes no sense as most iPads are over weight for the devices, so maybe they did that so you can control it from a ipad ? So when i try to use my iPad Pro to setup and control the device with my phone mounted on it, it keeps the iPad camera on the entire time !!! Makes no sense, but hey, last update was to fix the app icon …..progress i guess…ugh.
