Quizzes unresponsive to touch screen

Great app, I enjoy being able to practice speaking Japanese. I payed for the year to use the app. For some reason the quiz function doesn’t respond to to touch screen. When I try to select an answer (any answer) it does nothing and I can’t continue.

The option to practice writing works fine.

This thing speaks nonsense “Japanese” and can’t understand konnichiwa

On the very first lesson, it wants me to say konnichiwa. I do I say it right. It doesn’t understand me. It asked me to repeat. So I gave the thing to my native Japanese speaking wife and it couldn’t understand her either. So we couldn’t get past that at all. I’m glad it was free. really the Japanese that it says or writes is complete babble.

If the developers want to contact me or respond, so I know I’d be happy to entertain any suggestion and update my review and rating accordingly if necessary. Otherwise it’s getting deleted.

Response from developer

Hi! Thanks for your feedback. I would love to learn more about your experience and how we can prevent this from happening in future - please can you email us at hello@kaizenlanguages.com with more details?

Voice recognition is terrible

Great promise, but the voice recognition doesn’t work very well at all- often you will say exactly the phrase it wants, but it’ll just say ‘repeat please.’ No matter what you do- I can’t read kanji yet so I’ll bet it’s not hearing what I’m saying correctly despite the fact that I know my pronunciation is good.

Corrections and keyboard issues mar interesting app

Corrections often correct the wrong part of a wrong answer, telling you that you got something wrong that you didn’t and not noticing the actual error.

Also, there way it handles submitting answers makes it impossible to use a hardware keyboard. There is no submit button unless you have the onscreen keyboard.

It's Okay- Needs a Support Option

I use this app in addition to several others, Kaizen is probably my least favorite. You have to pay to really do anything in the app which is fine if you're serious about learning, but the further you get in the lessons the more I've seen typos from incorrect words, genders, spellings & even the app marking things as incorrect that are not.
It would be better if there was a way to "report" such as Duolingo has when you come across errors within the app. I can only imagine how many people have seen these errors and taken them to be true. One lesson I saw どけい being translated as clock when it is in fact とけい. When using the word "father" the speakers constantly referred to father as "she" among other errors. Lastly, the hints/suggestions it gives you for responses are very restrictive and leave little room for you to practice outside of exactly what they want you to write. The app is definitely helpful for learning but I wouldn't use it as my only method for learning Japanese. Bunpo is great for people looking for something other than Kaizen to learn.

Great app

This is a great app, I’m stuck on the second tutorial and apparently it’s in a loop because I have a slight speech impediment. So saying “sayonara” is what gets me. Lol, I wish there was a way to do some kind of way to adjust speech recognition.

Kaizen review

I love this app so much!!! This app is really helpful with learning Japanese, it has made it way easier for me to mesmerize the katakana. I love how it can help you have normal conversations too!!

It’s okay but could’ve improved

It’s good for a first time use, until you find out that you have to pay to learn a language. Right now I’m trying to learn Japanese bad Korean, but sadly Korean is not in the list of things you can learn on this app. It’s complicated to have to pay for something like educational things and to be honest it’s kinda upsetting that I need to pay to learn a new language. I’m not saying that you should download this app but just know that you have to pay 7.99 monthly just to learn something new. You most likely would be better off using Duolingo if you can’t afford to pay monthly

Keeps crashing mid lesson

I’ve bought the yearly pass. I was excited to reintroduce myself back into learning Japanese again. But it keeps crashing. I will make a written log soon. I really hope this can be fixed because I love the style this is done in. It is rejoicing my mind a lot and understands my dialect really well. Good luck programmers for our sake as much as yours.

Only useful thing is flash cards

Trying to speak to this app is like trying to talk to a brick wall. It doesn’t even let you finish 99% of the time and tell you that you are wrong on a part you never even got to say.

The 1% of the time it does let you finish it is so far off it isn’t helpful

Plz fix

App is great, just which the app mic can pick up exactly what I’m saying instead telling me too constantly repeat over and over and over again.

Too many flaws!

Correct answers, including sentences from the suggestions, are frequently randomly marked as wrong, often causing loops that make lessons unfinishable. Lessons sometimes hang, forcing you to restart them. While some activities give you some word choices (such as different colours and names), others only allow you to say a very specific sentence (e.g. 'I hate dancing' or 'I don't like singing') which may be very different than how you actually feel about the topic. In some activities, the app marks gramatically correct first-person Spanish sentences as wrong when you omit 'Yo.' The English translations of both Spanish and Japanese phrases also have several misspellings and sometimes wrong grammar. The streak randomly goes down to 0 even when you meet your daily goal the previous day. The customer service takes too long to respond, sometimes forgetting to do so altogether. I have sent feedback regarding the streak problems and the team has kindly but unsuccessfully attempted to fix my streak three times. I do not recommend this app for learning Spanish and/or Japanese.

Worthless without payment

The app advertises three free lessons a day but you actually only get two. In addition, the flash cards you “unlock” are also actually locked behind this restriction as well. The writing lessons also are locked. Basically all you can do for free is say 4 sentences a day, twice.

If you want to make this a paid program, make it paid, but there’s no reason for it to be a subscription or for the free tier to be so limited - you may as well not have one.

Very inconsistent and the lessons don’t work.

Imma be straight to the point. I love the app, when it works it is the best app for learning Japanese out there. But…the lessons break a lot. I’m still working with Mizuki and the Nationalities lesson just won’t let me get past saying my own nationality. At first I thought I was spelling it wrong but it’s just not even accepting anything I put. Even when I put in the exact recommendation or when I type it in the romaji translation it still just asks me say it again.

Not good for advanced learners

So, I really wanted to test my speaking with this app, but whenever I communicated something more than what the AI was asking for it marked it as wrong! This might be good for beginners, but I wish that it could just place you at a certain level and let you speak to your heart’s content!! Also, I did not want to subscribe and the 2 lessons were kinda boring.

Voice problems

Not sure if it’s my phone or what but apparently this will not pick up my voice when I speak because it continually tells me to redo stuff because it will not pick up everything I say.

Good

So far I think this app can help a lot, but I don’t want to subscribe, at least not now. It would be better if I could do more stuff without paying, or at least get a better feel if I can learn a lot from this app

Try it

I love this so much you learn Japanese better and it’s fun writing you can learn Spanish but I wish you had more no just Japanese and Spanish I like doing Japanese so when I go to Tokyo or japan I will know how to speak the language

Amazing app🤩

This is a very good app, it has amazingly surprised me how awesome this app is. This app is not like any other, and its nothing compared to Dalingo. That is because Kaizen some how makes things way more memorable, based off the voices. That may not make any sense, but I do highly recommend this app to learn different language. So far I have started Japanese and it’s starting off great!!😮‍💨

I finished the lessons now what?

I finished all the lessons and I wanted to review the Flashcards. You only can do 10 at a time and often they repeat the same 10 over and over. Will you ever allow users to control how many flash cards they view at one time? That would definitely help with the longevity of the app.
