Kakeibo – Mindful Budget is a quiet budgeting journal inspired by the Japanese kakeibo habit: plan the month, pause before buying, write things down, and look back.
It is not a bank-sync app. You write each expense yourself, and that small moment of writing is what helps you notice where your money goes.
PLAN AT THE START OF THE MONTH
• Set your income, fixed costs, savings goal and carry-over from last month
• See at a glance how much is left to spend this month
• Add a short intention for the month
• Add recurring expenses such as rent from templates
PAUSE BEFORE YOU BUY
• Put purchases you are unsure about on your Planned Purchases list
• Note why you want it, what makes you hesitate, and a date to decide by
• Mark each one bought or skipped; what you did not spend shows up in your monthly review
WRITE IT DOWN
• Record the amount, date and one of four categories: Needs, Wants, Culture / Learning, Unexpected
• Add how it felt (calm, regret, neutral, glad), a note and tags
• Search, filter and sort your entries
LOOK BACK AT THE END OF THE MONTH
• See spending by category, what you chose not to spend, and a comparison with last month
• Answer three short questions and keep an open note
• Switch months to read your earlier reviews
PRIVATE AND CALM
• No bank connection, no account, no ads, no tracking
• Optional private iCloud sync between your own devices
• Face ID / Touch ID lock
• A gentle reminder at the hour you choose
• CSV export
• 41 currencies, your own month start day, dark mode, iPhone and iPad
• Sample data to try the app, removable anytime in Settings
