About

Kakeibo (家計簿) — meaning "household financial ledger" — is a budgeting method created by Japanese journalist Hani Motoko in 1904. Rather than just tracking what you spend, it asks you to pause and reflect on why you spend. How it works Every expense is sorted into one of four pillars: - Needs (必要) — essentials like rent, groceries, and bills - Wants (欲しい) — enjoyable but non-essential purchases - Culture (文化) — books, courses, music, and enrichment - Unexpected (予想外) — repairs, medical costs, and surprises At the start of each month, set your income and savings goal. As you spend, Kakeibo shows how your money flows across the four pillars. At the end of the month, reflect on what went well and what you can improve. Features - Multiple income sources - Fixed costs with categories and month-to-month import - Visual budget bar showing savings, spending, and what's left - Search across all months - Monthly reflection with guided questions - Multi-currency support - Rename and organise expense categories Private by design All your data stays on your device. No accounts, no cloud sync, no analytics. The only network request is loading fonts on first launch. After that, Kakeibo works fully offline. Small, consistent acts of awareness lead to lasting change.
