About

All 2,136 Jōyō kanji in JLPT order, N5 to N1, plus every kana. Readings taught inside real words, each with a spoken sentence. Every stroke checked when you write. Offline, no account, no ads. A Memory view shows which kanji are fading, so you review them before you forget. HEAR EVERY WORD IN A REAL SENTENCE Each of the 4,311 word cards comes with a real Japanese sentence that plays aloud, with highlighting that follows the speech word by word. Hiragana, romaji and an English translation are always there. Listen to a single word or the whole sentence, as often as you like. WRITE IT YOURSELF, EVERY STROKE CHECKED Practice writing with your finger or Apple Pencil: each stroke is checked for direction, place and order, with a hint when you need one. Watch the stroke order of every kanji and kana, step through it stroke by stroke, and see which parts a kanji is built from. The writing quiz asks you to write kanji from memory. ONE KANJI, SEVERAL READINGS Study the complete Jōyō list, 2,136 kanji from N5 to N1, in chapters of up to ten. Turn over a card to see its meanings, on and kun readings, and the real words each reading appears in. Expand readings and examples right on the card. START WITH THE SOUNDS Learn the 46 basic Hiragana and 46 basic Katakana with pronunciation guidance and audio, then voiced sounds, combinations, small kana and other advanced lessons. Every kana has its own stroke order and writing practice. KNOW WHAT TO PRACTICE Test readings and meanings with quizzes. Rate what you recall to schedule reviews, and return to words that need more practice. Track your progress without losing sight of the next card. On the answer, swipe right for Got it or left for Not yet. Already know a kanji? Mark it as known, and its next review is scheduled in 3 months. SEE WHAT YOU REMEMBER Every character you've studied is drawn as dark as you're likely to remember it now. Ink fades along the forgetting curve, and a review inks it again. Today shows your daily goal as a brush circle that closes when you reach it, with a seal for every day you do. MAKE IT YOURS • Save characters and write personal notes. • Choose Mincho or Gothic for kanji, and a light or dark appearance. • Use Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets. • Keep a streak and set optional reminders. • Study offline and sync progress through your private iCloud when available. No separate Kanji Bento account. No ads, no analytics. Available in English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and German. KANJI BENTO PLUS Kanji Bento Plus, an in-app purchase, unlocks the remaining N5 chapters and every chapter from N4 to N1. If you subscribed to Kanji Bento Plus before, you keep it. October 19, 2026

• Sumi is now Kanji Bento. Your progress, bookmarks and Plus stay just as they were. • A new Today screen: your daily goal is a brush circle that closes when you reach it, and every day you reach it gets a seal. • Memory: every character you've studied is drawn as dark as you're likely to remember it now. Ink fades along the forgetting curve, and a review inks it again. • On the answer, swipe right for Got it or left for Not yet. • Already know a kanji? Tap "I know this kanji": its words count as mastered and are scheduled for review in 3 months. • Progress now shows the kanji you've mastered and your last 12 weeks of activity. • Choose the kanji font: Mincho looks like printed books, Gothic has even strokes. • A much smaller download, a faster start, and layouts that fit smaller iPhones and larger text.
