<3 but recently buggy

I absolutely love this app. It is so useful for helping me study and keep my kanji recognition skills sharp.

It suddenly stopped working for me after one of the iOS updates. It would only load up to the riot game shield page and then failed to load further. Thank you. Please bring it back!

Doesn’t work

On iPad Pro, after startup screen it just shows a blank page and never does anything, completely broken.

Interesting game

I’m actually finding the game really fun. I like learning random kanji and the fact I can guess words based off the context of the said kanji. I just wish I was actually able to use the settings though. I don’t want any romaji, but even with it selected off, I still see romaji. There seems to be some options locked under “while mid game”, but the issue is that the options never open up say if a game ends. I have no complaints about this game other than the fact I can’t customize how I see things.

Extremely well designed and good concept

Very nice, engaging and actually packed full of information. Varying gameplay to keep entertained as well. Only issue I had are frequent crashes, making me restart the app but saving my progress thankfully. It does get annoying constantly restarting. However this is a good way to learn kanji

The most annoying app for learning/reviewing kanji out there.

Just in-your-face annoying and the pop-ups won’t let you enjoy the game at all…

FAQ

What is Kanji Drop?

Kanji Drop is an educational game designed to help users learn Japanese kanji and vocabulary. It uses a block-dropping mechanic where players construct kanji from their constituent parts and form words from existing kanji to progress through the game.

How does Kanji Drop help with learning?

The app teaches kanji by having players actively build them and words, reinforcing recognition and understanding. It also provides audio pronunciation for words and kanji meanings, and offers features like importing Anki decks and filtering by JLPT levels or textbook lessons.

Is Kanji Drop suitable for beginners?

Yes, the app is open to all skill levels. It starts off easy and provides hints when players are stuck. A 'Easy/Learning' mode is available for those who want more time to read about the kanji and words they encounter.

Can I import my existing study decks?

Yes, Kanji Drop allows advanced learners to import their Anki, WaniKani, and Koohii decks, making it a fun alternative to traditional flashcards and integrating with existing study methods.

What are the learning options available?

Users can learn all Japanese jouyou kanji, restrict learning to specific JLPT levels (1-5), or focus on textbook lessons from popular Japanese textbooks. The game also teaches how to construct kanji from their parts, similar to methods like James Heisig's Remembering the Kanji.
