Kanpu

From 1 November 2026 Japan stops taking the consumption tax off at the register. You pay the full price in the shop, show the goods to customs on your way out, and the money comes back afterwards. Kanpu keeps track of what you are owed until it arrives. SNAP THE RECEIPT Point the camera at the receipt and Kanpu reads the store, the date and the tax lines on the phone itself. If the photo is unreadable, type the amounts in. KNOW WHAT QUALIFIES The refund needs 5,000 yen before tax at one store on one day. Every purchase carries a badge: eligible, or how much further you have to go. WATCH THE CLOCK Customs has to see the goods within 90 days of the purchase. Kanpu counts those days and warns you before one runs out. DEPARTURE DAY On the day of your flight the Airport tab opens: what to have in hand, what to do before you check your bags, and everything still waiting to be confirmed. IN YOUR OWN MONEY Type in the rate you actually got and Kanpu shows the refund in your home currency alongside the yen. TAKE THE RECORDS WITH YOU Export everything as a CSV file or as a PDF you can hand over. NOTHING LEAVES YOUR PHONE Kanpu has no account, no server and no analytics. It never goes online, not even to look up an exchange rate. Delete the app and the data goes with it. Free for three purchases. One payment unlocks the rest, for good. No subscription. Kanpu organizes your records and estimates refunds. Final amounts are decided by the store and Japan Customs.
