About

Your credentials. Your iCloud. A simpler Keys. Keys is an encrypted home for API keys, SSH keys, tokens, certificates, connection strings, and passwords across Mac, iPhone, and iPad. This major release simplifies the whole experience by using your own iCloud account for encrypted vault storage and sync. Keys automatically finds your vault and uses Apple's system authentication to open it. No separate vault name to remember, no routine vault password, and fewer steps between you and your credentials. SIMPLE TO OPEN Unlock with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device's passcode or login password. When your existing vault is available, Keys takes you straight to authentication. Add another device using the same iCloud account and iCloud Passwords & Keychain, and Keys finds the same vault for you. YOUR VAULT, AVAILABLE ACROSS DEVICES Credentials, revision history, and attachments sync through your private iCloud database. Everything is encrypted on your device before upload. Your vault key reaches your other devices through iCloud Keychain, with separate authenticated protection on each device. Keys does not operate a server holding your vault. Already enrolled devices can open the vault offline. Work without a connection, then let changes sync when you're back online. If iCloud or a new device's key is not ready, Keys shows a clear waiting or retry message. BUILT FOR YOUR CREDENTIALS • Structured records for API keys, SSH key pairs, OAuth tokens, certificates, connection strings, and logins • Organize by app, environment, provider, and tags • Notes, attachments, and revision history alongside each credential • Credential health checks and provider usage information where supported • Optional macOS command-line access and SSH agent, requiring the Mac vault to be unlocked IMPORT AND BACK UP Import from supported password-manager exports, .env files, and pasted text. Pattern-based extraction runs on your device. Optional AI extraction uses your own OpenRouter key and asks for consent before sending selected text, including text extracted from images, to OpenRouter and your chosen model provider. Credential health and usage checks contact the relevant provider. Portable encrypted backups include credentials, history, and attachments. Backup exports have their own passphrase, separate from everyday unlocking. Keep a current backup and its passphrase somewhere safe. UPDATING TO THE NEW KEYS Update Keys on all your devices before migrating. Existing vaults keep their encryption key, and legacy recovery material is preserved. Earlier versions do not sync with the new vault format. New-device setup requires iCloud and iCloud Passwords & Keychain. Independent, native software for macOS and iOS. No advertising or Abokado Labs analytics.

What's New in Keys

1.4

October 9, 2026

Keys 1.4 is a major release focused on a simpler experience, powered by your own iCloud account. SIMPLER FROM THE FIRST OPEN Keys automatically finds your vault in iCloud. Unlock with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device's passcode or login password. There's no routine vault password to create, no vault name to enter, and no extra Continue screen when your vault is ready. YOUR VAULT ACROSS YOUR DEVICES Rebuilt iCloud sync keeps encrypted credentials, revision history, and attachments together across Mac, iPhone, and iPad. iCloud Keychain delivers your vault key to new devices, while enrolled devices remain usable offline. Changes sync when you reconnect. LESS FRICTION, MORE CONFIDENCE Clearer waiting and recovery messages, fixes for repeated authentication prompts, improved handling of conflicting changes, and complete encrypted backups including history and attachments. Before migrating, update Keys on all your devices and keep iCloud Passwords & Keychain enabled. Retain your existing recovery information and encrypted backups. Earlier Keys versions do not sync with the new vault format. A CLEAR, PROTECTED UPGRADE Existing vaults keep their encryption key and recovery copies. A simple progress screen shows Protect, Sync and Verify. Choose Use Keys to keep working while setup continues. Keys checks the iCloud copy before finishing; interrupted work resumes from saved progress.
