About

The day, in your pocket. Built for the ninety seconds between classes, when you are standing on the mat and the office is on the other side of the building. Kihon Staff is the companion app for schools that run on Kihon. Your school gives you an account. There is no signup here, because a staff account is something a school issues, not something a person creates. THE TABS 1 - Today. Your duty sheet, generated from your school's own list. Tick items as you do them and your name goes on the record. Beside it, who is slipping and worth a call today. 2 - Classes. What is running today, who is on the mat, and what this week's focus is. The thing you check on the way through the door. Swipe a name to file an incident report, or search for anyone when something happens in the lobby. 3 - Schedule. The standing week plus what is coming: gradings, camps, events, and the day's weather when something is being held outside. 4 - Leads. Your funnel at a glance. Log a call the moment you make it, add an inquiry in ten seconds while the parent is still standing there, and move somebody along. 5 - Messages. Answer families from your phone, as yourself or on behalf of your school. 6 - Your team. Who works here, how to reach them, and your own profile. Edit how families see your name, set how you take calls, and manage this device's notifications. Turn off the tabs you do not use on this device. Hiding a tab also stops its notifications reaching this phone, so a switch means what it says. NOTIFICATIONS WORTH THE BUZZ A duty assigned to you reaches your lock screen, titled with your school's name, whether or not you are signed in on the web. So does a duty assigned to a role you wear, which tells everyone wearing it rather than pretending the job is exclusively yours. So does a new inquiry, the moment somebody fills in your signup form. What never buzzes: anything nobody in particular needs to do. A shared duty that anyone can pick up is a list, not an alert, and a notification lane that cries wolf gets muted for good. KIOSK MODE ON IPAD Turn a spare iPad into your front desk check-in station. Tap "Use this iPad as a kiosk" on the sign-in screen, and a staff member with access to Devices pairs it on the web. Members check in with their PIN or by finding their name. A check-in made while the Wi-Fi is down is kept on the iPad and sent when the connection returns. It stays awake, clears itself between members, and reopens straight into check-in after a restart. Revoke it in Devices and it goes back to the sign-in screen, so no staff login ever sits on a lobby iPad. IPHONE AND IPAD On an iPad it draws a sidebar rather than a tab bar, and you can switch between the two. Light and dark both, following your device. WHAT IT COLLECTS Your name, your role at the school, and your sign-in, so the app can show who ticked what and keep you to your own school's data. Your school's records: the roster, the schedule, the duty book, attendance, and inquiries. On a kiosk iPad, the check-ins members make there. A notification token if you turn notifications on. Your display preferences never leave the device. No advertising. No analytics SDK. No third-party code watching you. Nothing sold or shared for marketing. WHAT IT COSTS Nothing extra. No per-seat charge and no paid tier. Every Kihon feature is on every plan, and this app is included. BUILT BY SOMEBODY WHO HAS TAUGHT THE CLASS Kihon is built by a martial arts instructor who is also the developer answering the support email. That is why the duty sheet knows a Sunday the school was closed is not a zero, why a hat duty tells everyone wearing it, and why the app will not ring a parent from your personal number unless you tell it to. Requires iOS 17 or later and a Kihon account from your school.

What's New in Kihon Staff

2.5

October 29, 2026

NEW: GRADUATION DAY IN TWO STEPS • Prepare: before the day, see everyone testing, the belt they hold, the belt they are going for, and who is ready. • Mark results: on the day, select everyone ready in one tap, deselect the few who did not pass, and Record. It always asks first. • Someone ready who never registered can still be passed. They sit in their own folded section, and the app asks before it promotes them. • The header shows the real testing fee: one price, or the range by belt. • Graduations are for members only, and their price comes from the belts, never typed in. NEW: KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS ON IPAD AND MAC A Graduation menu: Option-Command-1 Prepare, Option-Command-2 Mark results, Shift-Command-A select everyone ready, Command-Return record (it still asks first), Option-Command-N new note, Command-R reload. ALSO NEW • Change your profile photo and banner right from the app. • A new event tells you it makes the signup page in the same step. FIXES • Removing a graduation note is red, and still asks first. • Social events keep their own color, whatever color your school picks. NEW: DRIVE TODAY'S VAN FROM THE APP • On a day you drive, a car sits beside the + on Today. Tap it to run your route: each pickup at the curb, then We're back. • Walk the van, then slide to close the run. No signature, and a slide never closes it by accident. • Families following the van see each step on their phone as you tap it. • When the desk hands you a run for just today, or sends you out in a second van, the car follows. Pull down on Today or come back to the app.
