Kōrero Māori

Kōrero Māori is designed to collect speech recordings to train computers to understand spoken languages through machine learning. This project started in an effort to automate the transcription of thousands of hours of te reo Māori archives and to enhance access to Māori media. Our goal is to provide te reo Māori language processing tools to Māori to help the revitalisation and promotion of te reo Māori. All recordings gathered through Kōrero Māori fall under our Kaitiakitanga License. Kaitiakitanga means guardianship, and we look after the data collected to ensure positive outcomes for te reo Māori.
